    Default LED vs. LCD

Buying a TV today and need a little input from those more knowledgeable than I. Which one is a better choice. 26" Vizio LED or 26" Sylvania LCD. Thanks.

You want to get the LED-LCD type for the best picture. I just bought the Samsung 55". It is nice. Had a Sony Bravia before. The Samsung is better to me.

More info. The TV is an XMAS gift for the MIL for her bedroom. I bought the Sylvania on the Black Friday sale already but today Target has the Vizio for $198.00 and I thought i read somewhere that LED was good technology? Either way she will be stoked I am just trying to get the best one for the best price. The Vizio, if we go that route is $80 bucks cheaper.

What has the "BEST"...it's in the eye of the beholder > but rumor has it plasma still has the edge for the better theater type picture if that's what you like (I do) PLUS, viewing angle is a NON issue.

A local repair shop (a very honest one at that) told me the below...and also > look to the three S's as in Samsung, Sony and Sharp.
They ALL have issues > Only risk/spend the amount of money that you would be thrilled if you got 3 to 7 years out of the set.

BTW > LCD technology is older than plasma by far.
They had LCD before Plasma was even in the think tank.

Advantages of LCD (including LED backlit) > runs cool, good picture, light weight.
Disadvantages of LCD (Excluding LED Backlit in reference to backlight failures only) > Very Fragile, Backlights Fail, Washes out in high ambient light conditions, Poor high angle viewing.

Advantages of Plasma > Generates its own light (no backlight required), good picture, excellent high angle viewing, does not washout in high ambient light conditions, not nearly as fragile as LCD, longer life.
Disadvantages of Plasma > Heavy, Uses more electricity, runs at a higher temperature although the newest units are much better.

Some manufacture's stopping production of Plasma had nothing to do with Plasma technology. It's all about money. LCD's are CHEAPER to build therefore profit margin is higher. The light at the end of the tunnel is the LED Backlit LCD televisions. The Backlight can be replaced on these sets so the overall life should be good excepting for they will still be a fragil set. By fragil I'm told a 2 year old child with a foos ball bat can break a lcd tv screen.

With the above being said > I'm tired of paying for TV and WAY TOO MANY commercials! I'm considering telling Comcast to kiss my ass and about to go with a digital antenna. That leaves no reason for the 50" plasma I once wanted.
I wish they made a 50" CRT/tube > that picture would be fine in my book. Heck, my 1993 36" Tube set still looks great!

As far as bang for the buck, you can't beat a Panisonic Plasma. The picture is imho better than LCD. Samsung would be another choice in Plasma.

To wrap my portion of this thread up here's how it went. We got the Vizio, took the other one back and couldn't be happier with the end result. The Vizio is BAD ASS, got 32 great reviews and was smaller and lighter while providing the same size screen as the other set we had purchased. The picture on the LED-LCD is really impressive. Go check it out.

I just got a sony led (NX800) a couple months ago. I love it. However, there is not that much difference from the lcd. From what I found, ther are LCD's, LED, and LCD-LED. Mine is a full LED (edge lit). But I was told the LCD-LED is a little of both.

The full LED tends to have a 3D effect during some programs, but I could control that with adjusting the motionflow adjustment. The LED are the more expensive though.

If you are going to watch lots of sports, get the 240 mghz.

    My wife does!!!!
She says it's weird as hell, I say HD is great!

She says to her it looks like its all 3D, or layered?

We had the TV already, finally got the HD boxes and HD dish a few weeks ago.
