Default New Rotary Engine Supposedly Makes up to 3,000 hp??

At the Miami Boat Show on Friday, I ran into an interesting gentleman named Tyson Gavin. He had an all chromed rotary engine on display inside the Statement Marine booth. The rotary engine reportedly produces 1,440 hp on 87 octane with a 400 hour warranty at 9,000 rpm!!!??. Its called the R12 by Smith Power.

According to Tyson, the engine can produce up to 3,000 hp with its turbocharged version.
Base price on the 1,440 hp will retail for $85,000 and the turbo version upwards of $120K.

The prototype is far from complete but was one of the more interesting concepts to be introduced at the show. He plans to bolt the engine to an Arneson surface drive should he
get to the next stage of development.

Specs were; length of engine 30", width 31", height 24", weight 830 lbs, max rpm 9,000.

I didn't receive a business card from him; but did follow up with Rick at Arneson who stated that he was aware of the project and would be happy to work with him as the project develops.

Heres the thread from Offshore Only on this engine. Interesting piece, but Tyson was very clear it is NOT a Mazda rotary. Should be interesting.

Like is said on OSO, I'd be interested in the torque. I want to see some numbers in a boat on the water. Mostly time to plane on say a 38 foot V-hull.

I believe Tyson claimed it made about 900ft-lbs for the 1440hp version, which is only reason they have a 2-speed coupled to it...to get the torque multiplication for getting out of the hole.

He said the turbo version would have less spread...like 2400hp/2000ft-lbs if memory serves.

I'm surprised that more people haven't talked about this engine? Has anybody heard of any updates? Any idea about the pricing?

Yes...Does anybody know if they ever did any water testing and how they performed in real world conditions?

One thing about the wankel engines is blowing those damn apex seals, high rpm and usually not alot of torque and when it makes torque it's at like 7k rpm. That's why the new rx-8 is non turbo because mazda almost lost their ass on the turbo's. Mazda actually made a 3 rotor engine that was designated 20B but only came in the Eunos Cosmo in japan that can be built for huge power but just don't last very long. I have always thought it would be awesome to use the infamous toyota 2jzgte. Inline 6 twin turbo from the supra's. Lots of guys laying 900-1000hp on a completely stock block and drivetrain with larger turbos and becuase of the inline 6 they still make great torque. One of these days I want to buy a 21 howard river cruiser v-drive and throw a 2jzgte and see people's faces when I come blowing by. This engine looks bad ass though.
