If you held that hose on the bottle and continued to fill the drive and it also filled the resevoir bottle, tells me that all hoses and gear lube transfer fittings (male/female/check/balls/transfer hose/ are fine. If I were you, I would spray a degreaser or even just some soap down in that area of the prop shaft and wash it out with the hose and lower the drive and let it dry and see what happens. That way the area is clean and you will be able to see if there truly is a leak.
Your right!!! I completely misread that!

I was mistaken on the action of the dribble valve...it just prevents the bottle from draining when the drive is removed. I thought it also acted as a check valve to flow from the drive towards the bottle.

    D'oh!

It does that and also opens the check ball in the drive.

    Default service buletin

After screwing the vent plug back in and pumping oil from the bottom up, it began to be hard to move the oil. I had removed the cap from the reservoir bottle to allow air to escape. The hose connected to the little oil bottle pump now kept popping off, but I was able to hold it on and fill the unit up. Next day I see the leak. Appears to be the drain plug behind/below the prop. ( Thats where it is on the xr drive.) I replace the gasket on the drain plug, no big deal. Still leaks. Obviously not the drain plug. Did I damage a seal or o-ring? I do not know what to think, Thanks
there is a service buletin about the drain screw being to long and bottoming out in the xr carier before the gasket seals

Might be on to something there. The old drain plug gasket is blue and thick, I replaced it after seeing the leak and the new one is yellow and thin. I could have mixed up the vent screw witht the drain screw, but I thought I was pretty careful. Drive is still dripping oil, gonna swap back to the thicker blue gasket and see what happens, maybe the leak the whole time was the drain gasket. Will update.

UPDATE,,, Bart got it. I guess some do it and some do not. Issue Is the new yellow washer is a little thinner than the prior blue one. I stacked the old blue washer and new yellow one to test, and leak gone. I could feel the drain screw tightening down with both washers, could not with just the yellow one, screw would just make a sudden stop. Machining must be a little different on some. Off to get some blue washers. Thank you Bart and everyone else.

look at the drain screw the new drain screws are shorter and will work with either gasket

Nice! It's always good when a forum member solves a problem for a fellow boater and it's a cheap fix!
