    Default California/arizona boat registration question?

Hey guys I am purchasing a boat soon with cash and I live in California and my father lives in Fort Mojave AZ and the boat will stay at my fathers house. My question is the boat is currently registered in AZ so how can I register the boat in AZ? Do I need to put my father on the title with me so that I can register in AZ? Thanks for the help guys.

Register the boat in AZ with your CA address as a non-resident. That's what most do

You can register it in Arizona as a Non-Resident. You also may be able to use your Dad's address too. I am sure some of the more knowledgable can chime in on this though.

Reg the boat in Az and if you plan on bringing it to Ca at all, reg the trailer in Ca.

I really might bring the boat to california maybe once a year if that. If I register the boat in AZ as a non resident do I have to pay tax on the transfer of title like I would have to in CA? I have heard that you don't pay tax on private party to private party sales in AZ, is this correct? Also is this all done at a local DMV over in AZ?

No tax if you keep it reg'd in AZ. The boat is done at AZ Fish and Game. The trailer is done at AZ MVD

I just did the same thing, I live in CA, bought a Boat in AZ with AZ numbers, dont even have an address in AZ and I register it as a non-resident, saved $2,500 in taxes since there is no sales tax. However I do believe the registration is more than if I was a resident of AZ. I might change that since my brother just moved out there.

There is an AZ MVD in BHC and a Fish and Game office in Kingman.

That was part of one of my questions is I believe if its registered to a resident of AZ the registration is even less, that's why I was asking if I could put my father on the title with me or if he would have to be the primary in order for them to consider the residency.

Do I have to tow the boat out to Kingman? Or just take the paperwork? Whats up with having to take it to two different places?

I didn't tow any of mine to Kingman. Just took the paperwork. Boat reg and vehicle reg are dealt with differently. In AZ boats are not titled. Vehicles (trailer) are.

So the boat won't have a title when I buy it? Sorry for sounding like a retard, just never dealt with buying anything like this from out of state? So what exactly do I get if there is no title?
