Seems a lot of new cars are going with this type of power steering or at least the ones I have looked at. Any one have it?? pro or cons???

I had an 88 Subaru with electronic variable rate power steering. The thing was impressive. In parking lots, effort was minimal and the steering wheel was more 'Cadillac' feel. At speed, especially back roads or spirited driving, had more of a 'Ferrari' feel, very tight and precise.
you're right, a lot of them out there! Seems to work well overall. We have seen a few problems with early Malibu's (05) etc. Newer stuff has been good so far![]()
have 5/10 of the in the gm line,i have a brand new f150 lariat added weeks ago to fleet, i think but not sure that truck has it to , we had a hell of a time diagnosing an equinox, would not steer, we discoverd the rear wiper motor had shorted,no codes, didnt notice, cause the exc who drives it never used the rear wiper, but replacd the wiper motor started working again a year has passed no comeback yet. all and all they reduce the horse reqd to drive conventional hyd pump, letting the engine work less,i wonder what would happen if a elct failure event were to happen at hi speed
The new Mustang has fully electric assist.....Numerous mags have tested it, and rave about it; In a comparison with an M3(?!) the GT was LESS than 1/10 sec off on an 87 sec lap....they stated that BMW wished they had steering as good as the Mustang.
Just switched over to EPS on the Racecar. (2012 Mustang Boss302R) What a inprovment! Wheel input is smoother and the car trasitions quicker. One less rotating pump one less thing to overheat and fail. Have had zero issues with it and we have had it on the car for 3 rases now... Works great!

Seems to be a positive then huh?
In reading about it on some forums the wander at highway speeds has me a little concerned. Guess its a Try it for your self deal, but since most new cars have it what choice is there, get over it I guess.

Idk about the wondering on Highway speeds... I mean at Daytona we are seeing speeds of 170+ MPH NO wondering then... But I can not speak for the production Mustang. I know with ours when Ford was first developing their EPAS system there were some issues with wheel input being to delayed. The system is problem free for us as of yet. I know that it is slightly different in compairson to the production verison but I believe that it's very compareable. We were a little scared when we first heard about this being in a race car being that there is no steering shaft and it if fail you're scrwed as far as steering.

Have it on y new stang with no wandering. There are many thing that can cause wandering. Two things about the EPS on the Mustang is it gets rid of any slop in the steering from a fluid steering and two it can be tuned based of driver input.
