Not at all what your talking about BUT my favorite place in the whole world is the little red bench at the end of Marine Stadium (lifeguard station) next to the rowing center...

Been to a lot of places but Mammoth Mountain in the summer is still my favorate ..... mountain biking and the mammoth motocross are the best!!
With or without wife and kids?
If you aren't married, going alone or with some guys, Phuket, Thailand is the best place on Earth. The women are gorgeous and readily available, the beaches are beautiful and well groomed, the food is awesome and won't make you sick, and the nightlife is unlike any anywhere else.
If you are married and want to stay that way, not so much![]()

Hanauma Bay in Oahu is probably my favorite but have been many times over the years. Elvis filmed Blue Hawaii there in the early 60s and it has been preserved almost ever since. Niagara Falls is another stunning place but I was thinking somewhere in South America not North America.

The best things in life aren't things!
I don't know how it has changed in the last 10-15 years but Manaus Brazil is VERY exotic and is an OLD OLD OLD city on the Amazon (used to be the rubber capitol of the world)... Super cheap to get around and eat, they do have some nice hotels but it is HOT HOT HOT if you go now which is their summer... Keep that in mind if you go to south america in our winter time, depending on where you go it is like 99% humidity...
One of my peers just got back from an extended stay in Buenos Aires/Argentenia and loved it and said he would move there in a heartbeat, of course he lives in the UK so that comes as no surprise...
You used to be able to get a pass on the south american airlines that would allow you to fly to many destinations around the continent for a flat purchase price, much like the train passes in Europe... Varig/GOL airline...

I'd agree with you, but then we would both be wrong

OK....I'll let my secret place out....If I have a boat it's gotta be Trinity Lake.....Without a boat, It's absolutely Lassen Nat'l park.....VOLCANIC Nat'l Park......Lot's of Volcanic features, probably still some snow, and towering old growth forest. My favorite CG is Butte lake- 6 miles in on a dirt road(Yet FLUSH toilets), a lava flow dumps right into the lake.....4 mile round trip hike to the cinder cone, up it to see the lava beds, the painted dunes and the inside of the cone.....Lassen is called the "One and Lonely" national park.....
Just remember, there are two types of vacation....the "Disneyland" type where you run around, wear yourself out, and getting home is a relief.....and the relaxation vacation, typified by the "East coast beach house" vacation seen in movies...ask yourself if you want to be relaxed after the vacation....
