CEOs go to jail for defrauding investors. Governors and POTUS get re-elected by the benefactors of the fraud.

This is not a fair statement Bob! Drunken Sailors spend their own money and Moonbeam is spending the taxpayer's money. Not a dime of his income shall be lost!

Your right Doc. More like a spoiled Beverly Hills housewife that has a video of her husband in bed with the neighbors HUSBAND!

I just thought Bob claiming that $174K was an extreme salary for the top executive of our state government was out of line when you compare that salary to what a CEO of a large corporation might make. The job of governor of a state like CA is similar in the amount of responsibility to a CEO of a large corporation, is it not? The CEO has a lot more freedom in implementing a plan for his organization than a governor has, so you could even go as far as saying the CEO has an easier job because the way our disfunctional state government is set up. And, no matter how good of a plan a governor may come up with, the odds are against him of ever enacting it fully because of the restrictions placed on the power of his office. CEOs don't have that problem.

You bring up CEOs and jail, but how often do CEOs at the highest level actually get convicted of a crime and sent to jail? How many of the CEOs from financial institutions went to jail after the meltdown in 2008? And as for anyone going after CEOs in civil court, all those guys have D&O insurance that covers their asses so they aren't risking their personal assets. So as far as you saying the big CEOs are risking their asses so they deserve ridiculous salaries, I'm not buying that.
Flip Romney is in bed with these crooked bankers like Jamie Dimon of JP Morgan. Romney says he wants to remove banking / Wall Street regulations as one of his acts as president ....Doh

Mittens is one of them....We cannot trust him........Republicans better re-think nominating him or they are toast.

After class the other day a kid from Lebanon was discussing the upcoming presidential election with an American student who could be described in the nicest way possible as a staunch conservative. I swear every time this kid (the conservative) discusses politics I wonder if Doc briefed him on what to say 5 minutes prior to the discussion. The kid from Lebanon is taking an American poli sci class and is very interested in American ploitics and the conservative kid was explaining to him how conservatives, the GOP, and the Tea Party will save America from the evil socialist Obama and the democrats. The conservative kid then goes on to list all the great things about Mittens and how he is going to return America to its past glory like when Bush 43 was in the WH. Now during this time I wasn't saying anything, just listening intently to the conversation between the two: the Lebanese kid asking questions, and the conservative kid coming up with answers that would make Doc proud. Then the Lebanese kid said that the way he sees it, anyone that doesn't make more than half a million a year would be a fool to vote for Mittens because anyone that isn't blind should be able to see the only people Mittens will do anything for are the rich people. You could clearly see the conservative kid was flustered because his attempt to spread the conservative message wasn't being carried out successfuly. So then I quietly asked the Lebanese kid how long he has been in the country. He replied four years. That's when I laughed and said loud enough for the conservative kid to hear that the Lebanese kid had been in the country for only four years and was already more informed about American politics than the conservative kid who was born and raised here. The conservative kid got pissed and stormed off.

Bush could have initiated action, he doesn't get off scott free- it happened while he sat in the big chair. And I do believe one of Obama's biggest failures as president was not directing the appropriate authorities to prosecute these assholes to the fullest extent of the law. That just goes to show how intertwined Wall St and the US government have become and why a serious overhaul of regulations is really needed immediately. But let's be honest, which party is the one pushing to cut regulations on the financial sector that are already weaker than they should be? Which party fought Dodd Frank? Which party would squeal like a stuck pig if someone suggested Glass Steagull be put back in place?
I was speaking directly to your comment/question of how many high level CEO really go to jail. - a bunch have.

    I was not comparing misdeeds.

Brown is guilty of squandering billions on folley like the high speed rail scope changes after the ballot, and the "Dream act" which forces me to pay- but illegals get a free ride. Now after spending our money like it was his - he's billions short- not going to come out of my end.

Bush couldnt have initiated the indictments because he wasnt in office when the bailout kings deeds had been exposed - as you said it basically just started in 08 - baton changed hands Obamas had it within him to fight or ignore moral hazard- he choose poorly. I agree with you that lack of indictments is a regime failing

The republicans are trying to fight off stuff like Sarbannes Oxley which is killing us on the world scene competitively.

Were talking about Brown here though right?

BTW this whole thread reminds me of how much I hate all politicians...

Tell it like it really is

The Lebanese kid is already brain washed most likely because he is getting a free ride thanks to Democraps giving the sink away for more votes. And how stupid is he and you for not correcting him about the dollar figure...remember Jerry and your buddy O think 250k is rich, I mean come on dont you hang on every bs word that comes out of their pie holes?? $250K is rich get with the O program before you lose your JR. Nut hanger badge.

Ram, I still want to know how taxing, or even confiscating all the wealth of the 1% is going to help me get more money in my pocket as a middle class citizen. I don't see how that is going to increase my market demand or lower my effective total tax rate below 50% when taking into account all taxes and fees. I don't see it lowering the prices for goods or services either and if it does it's probably because nobody has a job.

If you can explain that I'd be amazed but I'm sure you'll skip this over.

The 4th article in that link (excellent BTW) mirrors my prior comment about Obamas lack of indictments.

Banks are an interesting puzzle to solve- Im a bit on all sides with the solutions here.
One thing Id do for sure is up the reserve to float ratio by double or more. I think its 5% now or something ridiculous. By forcing the backs to hold 10-20 % of their assets in cash youll much more conservative banking - like what canada has.

And if they don't get re-elected they write books and go on book signing tours and make millions. Then it is on to the lecture tours....more millions made by fleecing the idiots. Then someone bestows them with the title "Statesman" Now he goes down in history as a great and honorable man.

The part you keep overlooking is he is not a CEO. He is a PUBLIC SERVANT!!!!!!!!!
If you voted for Obama to prove you were not racist, then you better find someone else to vote for to prove your not stupid.
