Anybody else notice these polls?

I happened across a headline that said Obama 46% and McCain 44%. Next to it was 873 democrats in the survey and 650 republicans. By doing simple math here and assuming most people will vote party lines, why do they not equal the numbers out? It seems these numbers will be moving one direction naturally just from the people involved. This is like saying there are 2% more Raiders fans than Cowboys fans but asking 873 people in Oakland and 650 in Dallas for the survey. Am I looking a this properly??

I see that method has shot them in the foot before with kerry. My fingers are crossed.

It would only be important if the percentage of democrats vs. republicans was indicative of the overall population. If, as the poll is reflecting, 57.3% of the general population is Democrat, the poll is accurate.

Unfortunately, it seems the media and most "polls" are 80% driven by Democrats. Maybe it is because the Republicans are too busy running companies or working to provide for the handouts of the Democrats participating in polls!

the best explaination i've read or seen on tv bout that issue is that mccain's supporters are at work instead of taking polls

there's 223 more democrats than repubs, so some of those demo's had to be voting repub in that poll

Simple, the drive by media wants OBAMA to win. All of these polls are like this except for the Zogby Polls. It's the SUPER SPIN ZONE!
