60 million people died because, during a time of severe economic crisis, many people in Europe were suckered into following two evil political ideologies (fascism and national socialism) that were based on the left wing populist fallacy that greedy capitolists must be controlled by a strong centralized government.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
    C.S. Lewis

That's what happens when a people enter into panic mode during a crisis and demand that their politicians do something, ANYTHING to fix things. They end up giving up their freedom in exchange for socialism and dictators who promise to restore things but end up driving the country off of a cliff.

People need to quit panicking. Prepare for the worst, but we ought give up our liberty for security.
