Obamas dad was born in 1936 and his step farther was born in 1935. They would have been 9 and 10 years old, respectively, when the war was over. That would have made them the youngest ever WWII Vet. Or any war vet. Remarkable.![]()

Another gaffe. His maternal GRANDFATHER served in WW2 and used the GI Bill. He misspoke. I'll give him this one.
With kids and parents and whatnot I have accidentally done the same thing. What father of more than 1 can say he never got names mixed up?
My Farther served in WWII. My Uncles Servered in WWII. One Uncle was too young, Born in 1935, to serve. My Grandfather was in between WWI and WWII. I served in Nam and my son served in Afganistan. My step father did not serve.
I have never gotten any of them mixed up on who served and who didn't. It is something I lived with all my life. Unlike names of family, that sometimes come and go, what they did is there unmistakenly.
Truth is easy to remember while lies are a bit tougher.
