Boeing To Cut 800 Jobs At Long Beach Facility
LONG BEACH, Calif. (CBS) ―
Boeing announced Monday that the company is moving 550 of its jobs at the Long Beach facility to Oklahoma City, while 250 other positions will be eliminated.
Boeing has announced that they will cut 800 jobs at the Long Beach facility.
The layoffs come as the company prepares to move two of their defense programs from Long Beach to Oklahoma City.
About 550 of the 800 employees will have the option of moving to Oklahoma to keep their job. The remaining positions will be eliminated.
Boeing will move its C-130 Avionics Modernization Program in 2011 and its B-1 program in 2012.
Boeing spokesman Forrest Gossett said, "I know our leadership team took a look at the overall operating cost and made a determination."
Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry is optimistic about the transition because of the state's previous success in the aviation and aerospace industry.
