Default We should all be ashamed

These guys stood up when every one else ran away and now they're being denied our help when they need it. What a shame.

IMO it's criminal. The first responders deserve all the help we can provide

    Default Agreed, but

I agree, but remember, there are two sides to every issue... I seem to recall a news series about people abusing this "help" with false, or overstated claims.... Just saying, there may be more here than meets the press, or in this case the comedy Daily show. Not my first choice for accurate information....

I have to call BS on this post Ray.

The Senate has filibustered health care for the first responders. Don't need Jon Stewart or Comedy Central to know this. It's an outrage and the people of this country should be screaming at the top of their lungs. These men and women are heroes and must be given the care they need and deserve. Weed out the BS but not the care that is truly needed.

Not going to argue a point I really am not that well informed about, but there have been cases of people that weren't even there filing claims...How many? I don't know..
I'm sure those that needed care have received at least some care from their union healthcare programs... What is it they're not getting??

    Ray,

The health care insurers are saying the illnesses are work related and thus coverage must come from Workers Comp. The Comp carriers aren't paying and great many of these men and women are left with no coverage. If there was ever a time for the Govt to intervene, it's now. The filibuster, IMO is criminal and is politics at it's worst.

Seems to me your argument and anguish should be with the Comp. carriers.

Aren't most workers comp insurance carriers regulated heavily by the STATE they sell the coverage in??
Another question: What ELSE is attached to the bill that continues to get filibustered?

My concern if for the first responders to the 9/11 attacks. These men and woman are heroes and need health care coverage, for the ailments resulting from their bravery. I really don't care who provides it. If I have to pay more to be sure these men and woman are covered send a bill for my share and I will pay it post haste.

The heath and well being of these men and women should not be determined by political BS from either party, period.

Why are you taking issue with you, me and the rest of the American people being sure that these men and women get every bit of care available??? I don't understand???

There is no excuse for this bullsh*t

WASHINGTON -- Senate Republicans, who blocked a bill to provide care for 9/11 first responders suffering health consequences as a result of their work amid the burning and smoking buildings at Ground Zero, explained themselves with a variety of reasons.

Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) said he voted against the first responders bill because Republicans had threatened to vote against everything until tax cuts for the rich were extended and a measure to fund the government was passed.

Despite the fact that President Barack Obama had met the GOP demands, Senate Republicans continued to block action in the upper chamber until everything was complete and signed into law.

"I signed a letter saying we need to be focusing on what we're doing right now," Ensign said, explaining his vote to filibuster the bill.

"Plus that was more spending that was not offset," said Ensign, arguing that the program shouldn't be funded without cuts or tax hikes elsewhere.

A GOP aide said the two parties were in negotiations aimed at finding the roughly $7.4 billion that would be needed to fund the program, though time is running out in the 111th Congress.

Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) also said he opposed moving forward on the bill because he wanted to get to tax cuts and the budget first. "I wanted to get to other items," he said. He then added, upon further reflection, that he had actually been out of town and wasn't around to vote to filibuster the bill. Brownback will become Kansas governor next and, he said, he was busy back home crafting the budget. He is recorded as not having voted.

More F'n spending??? For focks sake, the deal the GOP cut with the President added hundreds of billions to the debt/deficit.

Come all you Republican Patriots, where is your patriotism now?

Ray (moneypit), watch the WHOLE clip. A lot of your questions are answered.

My politics are pretty conservative, but this is simply WRONG.

No one would expect a war veteran to pay out of his pocket for his injuries sustained in battle. this is no different. WE need to stand up and help these people. It's what we do as Americans!

Just one little, portion of the bill you fail to mention.........I would like a crib sheet of how the funds will be administered, who will oversee these "treatments", obamacare?

Senate GOP blocks 9/11 first responders health plan bill
By Alexander Bolton and Jason Millman - 12/09/10 12:14 PM ET

Senate Republicans on Thursday morning filibustered legislation to monitor and treat first responders and emergency workers who suffered illnesses related to 9/11.

A vote to quash the filibuster failed by a vote of 57 to 42, three votes short of the necessary threshold. As a result, the proposal is unlikely to pass this year.

The bill would provide funding for a health program to treat first responders, construction and cleanup workers and residents who inhaled toxic particles after the collapse of the World Trade Center towers.

John, do you really think there won't be unmitigated fraud if this portion^^^^ is left without further definition in the bill?...It looks like a giant sinkhole for huge overruns...

    Ray,

Maybe you should be responsible for the health of the first responders who are either dying or are gravely ill as a result of their heroic actions. Please be sure that all who need care get it. Thanks Ray, you're the man.

BTW, there are many New Yorkers who are deathly ill or dying as a result of the 9/11 attacks. I hope you give these folks consideration too. You're a good man Ray
