Default Anybody ever been to a Jet Sprint race?

Going to one is on my bucket list but last couple years they either fell on a race weekend or a weekend off that was smack in between two races.

Definitely a fun event to watch especially when they are in your own back yard. One of these days I might get around to racing one.

Yes raced them for about five years. You will have to go to Oregon or Washington now. Marsing is all but done (few special events promotions hopefully) Try to go while the worlds are in the US. Go early and thumb a ride during practice. If that looks like fun try the white water racing. Will be running the thunder on the snake later this year.

Bottom feeder, its a sickness, and thankfully for those that dig this stuff, there is no known cure for you.

Thats why they half some poor guy sitting shotgun given hand signals to the driver. The driver concentrates on driving, the co-pilot only concerns himself with where the hell they are. Well that....and getting out in one piece.

They call them navigators. Mine was more of a victim, If I were only better at following directions. You get the course map the night before the event. Each turn is marked on the map with a number. You just get a list of numbers 1,3,8,5,12- etc. After the first pass about the only way to lower your time is to run closer to the bank and shorten the course.

It is a sickness and it seems to be getting worse for me. I would like nothing more than to have my own fleet. A person needs one of the following. Jet sprint, Whitewater race boat, GN boat, KRR boat,BAD boat and of course a Hard core White Water boat.

You will have the time of your life. I started APBA circle racing in 1976, SS, PC, VP, Comp Jets, Gn, mini boats, sst120 and 140, owned an driven several ski race boats etc. I am a die hard boat racer. Five years ago my friends in Burley Idaho bought me plane tickets to go to the white water races in Riggins Idaho. It was the best spectator boat race I have witnessed. My wife and I live in Parker, and most of our vacations are spectating white water and sprint jet boat races. If we get a new president and business gets better , I will build a house on my river property in Idaho, and I will own a white water jet boat.

In the jet sprint hand signals only. No two way comunications, flashing lights and such at least that was back four years ago. It was about 50/50 on the use of a navigator. With me I had the navigator signal the next turn. I thought it allowed me more time to set up for the next turn and be smoother troughout the course. It is an unbeliveable rush to run in the digs.

The white water boats run radio comunications and GPS. They did mandate a smaller display as some think navigaters were watching the screen rather than reading the river. They are by far the the most fun I have had in a race boat. The people, both racers and spectators are the greatest. Just like all other powerboat racing though it really comes down to the countless people that donate their time so a few can play.

Both are a bucket list item for any powerboat racer.

Here is Gordy on the down river leg at Riggins. Some day I will be having a turbine.
