Ok here's my delima I bought a new set of bare heads and I need to put valves in them.

I've looked at Manleys and they use the same part number for their severe and extreme duty intakes which are a NK-844 material, their extreme duty exhaust is XH-432 material which is supposed to be quite a bit better than their severe duty which is a XH-428 material.

To confuse myself even more I've looked at Ferrea competition plus super flo series which are supposed to be great.

I've used Manley and SI before and never had a problem with either of them but I'm open for ideas. I'm using these on a NA engine for my flat that will see some rpm (7500ish +/-) and might have a decent roller cam this time around so what brands are holding up the best and have good quality these days?

Thanks,
Loren

I'm a Ferrea fan. REV too. Either will be just fine. You ain't thrashing them 10k are you?
Run em and smile.
Ferrea sounds like Ferrari, so they are fast. REV sounds like its revven high, so they rock too. Manley's are not.
Wags
Manley's aren't good anymore huh?

So between Ferrea & Rev which is better?

I didn't see a listing in Rev for much of a tulip shape:
Exh CL1708 5.450" 12*x1/2" Both are 12 degree but this one has a 1/2" radius
Exh CL1713 5.425" 12*x3/8"

Then Ferrea has these that might work for the exhaust:
Exh F1206P 15* super flo +.100 5.500
Exh F1201P 15* super flo +.100 5.425
Exh F1271P 22* super flo GM/Edel 5.450 light weight

REV or Ferrea. Not sure you need to go all the way to the iconel, or Ferrea super alloy on the exhaust. The next step down, top SS valve in either brand is a damn good exhaust valve for all but the most brutal boat engines. Turbo, or blown, maybe chit load of NOS, or long extend WOT and you need the best. For a N/A in a small recreational boat that sees flat foot for seconds, its little bit over kill unless you just happen to have the money laying around. In that case, send it to me.

N/A boats we use Ferrea 6000 series for the intakes, and their Competition + valves for the exhausts. Never had a failure with them. I haven't used Manly valves since I experienced several failures about 20 years ago in my dragster,3 valves at three separate times. Recently I thought about trying Manleys again, as a customer had them in a Super Gas roadster with a 460 in it(super cobra-jet heads) and needed two of them. An intake and an exhaust(had a piston/ring failure). The valves were about 4 years old and he doesn't run the car very often so he just wanted to replace those two. Not many places sell Manly anymore, but we pulled the part numbers off of the stems, and ordered a pair. When they arrived, I found the intake valve tip length/ installed height had been changed by about .085" which would have made the installed spring height too high. He didn't want to buy a set of different locaters for just one valve. Called Manly and found that they changed the valve lock groove height spec back about the time the original valves were purchased and didn't change the part number. WASTED a total of 4 non-billable hours trying to find a few new-old-stock valves for this good customer. He then called all over the country for a few days and finally gave up, called me back, and wanted a new set of Ferreas ordered. Manly may be fine otherwise, but after these two experiences theres no reason to not use the Ferreas that have never caused me any grief. The Manly rep was totally uncaring, unsupportive, and unhelpful. As my grandfather used to say:"yer help can make you or break you."He also said:"its easy to satisfy a customer when things go right, its how you are treated when things go bad that makes the difference." Neither myself nor Bob will ever use them again. If you like them, use them, we just won't. TIMINATOR
