Default Trailer lights - New Maxxima Hybrids

I had the Maxxima 60-LED oval S/T/T grommet-mounted lights (four) at the back of the trailer. I put them in around 2006 and they started to crack recently and one of them had a whole row of LEDs out (three rows of 20 each). I really liked the look of a BUNCH of the smaller LEDs as opposed to the once with only a few large LEDs. But these new ones only come in the latter setup.

Anyway, since I had backup signal wired TO the trailer anyway (for the brake lock-out solenoid for backing up) - I figured WHY NOT just extend that wire to the back and have backup lights as well? Crowded launch ramps and my trailer being 35' long - it would be safer AND when I do back around at night, there will be more light back there.

So, here's the installation. The old units were just grommet-mounted and these new ones actually mount with a screw hole on each end. They are high-quality with stainless inserts to avoid loading the plastic too much. So, I mocked them up into position with zip-ties. Then I center-punched the holes to start drilling. I tapped the holes for 10-32 screws. Got some stainless allen-head machine screws, put some blue locktite on them, and attached them right up.

You'll notice from the pictures that the OLD wiring had several squash-taps in line. Having red paint all over them, it's obvious this was done at the factory when it was born. So, I cleaned all of that up and used heat-shrink butt-connectors to blend all of the wires together and make them water-tight.
