    Default Chevy Techs?? 04' Powersterring.......

Same truck, same problem I've been fighting forever. No power steering at idle with brake applied.

At the dealer now, Thanks for extended warranties!! First they replace the control valve, said it's fixed, come and get it. I show up, no power sterring still. I get my writer out there to look at it, "yep, no power sterring, don't worry about it, we'll take care of it."

Next dart throw, replace pump. I get the call, go down and same thing. He shows me a bulletin basically stating it's normal. Please, no power sterring is normal?

Any other suggestions? I've been on a few truck forums, but really no help. 04' with 55K miles, 285/16 tires. I'd hate to have to get rid of already.

Can I lemon law it if it's out of warr if they can't fix it?

    Thanks

they have a redesigned steering gear that has bigger valves in it so that when the hydraboost brakes are applied, the gear can operate as normal.

is this by chance a 1500hd or 2500hd? there's also a newer design ps pump with a bigger pressure volume too. let me know, i'll straighten it out from 2k miles away

Dare to be different, if it turns out great you can claim you planned it that way.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This bulletin is being revised to add model years and models. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 05-02-32-008A (Section 02 -- Steering).

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Condition
Some customers may comment on a lack of steering assist when stopped or during parking lot type maneuvers. A lack of steering assist could occur if the brakes are applied and turning the steering wheel with the vehicle stopped or during parking lot type maneuvers. This condition will go away or greatly improve once vehicle begins to move or is above parking lot speeds. This concern can be aggravated by worn tires, low tire air pressure, low power steering pump pressures, and tires larger than stock size.

    Correction
Important: In all cases, it is recommended that the proper tire size and the maximum tire pressure is set according to the manufacturer’s specification as noted on the door placard; especially for the front tires.

Perform the "Power Steering System Test" found in SI. Make any necessary repairs based on system diagnosis.
1.1. FOR 2500 AND 3500 VEHICLES ONLY - If diagnostics did not lead to any repair, this concern is a normal operating characteristic. No further repairs should be made. A Field Product Report should be submitted - refer to Corporate Bulletin Number 02-00-89-002D.

1.2. FOR 1500 SERIES VEHICLES ONLY - If diagnostics did not lead to any repair, this concern is a normal operating characteristic.

If the vehicle is equipped with a 670 gear box, replacing it with a 680 gear box may increase the customer satisfaction.
To determine if the vehicle is equipped with a 670 gear box, inspect the mounting bolts that attach the stub shaft housing. A 670 gear box will only have 3 mounting bolts. If the stub shaft housing does not have any mounting bolts or has 4 bolts - DO NOT PROCEED WITH THIS BULLETIN. The vehicle is not equipped with a 670 gear box.
If replacing a 670 gear box with a 680 gear box, it will be necessary to replace the power steering gear, union fitting and both inlet O-ring seals.

I'm afraid if I show them that, that they will say it's normal. How can no power sterring be normal?

No update from my truck. I talked to my writer Friday afternoon. He said he is waiting for Chevy to get back to him. They are opening a case on it or something.

    Red face

does GM still have a 1 800 number for regional zones
    for customer service ?

what if you find another dealership that actually reads the tech bulletins ?
they do print them in multiple languages ?
i know that might be rare ,since most GM dealerships are like pumpkin lots in February.....can't even get a salesman to come out to the curb..

if they opened a case, maybe you already on the lemon highway..
