    Default Ford V 10 Good-Bad ?

My Father's Super Duty Diesel was stolen last weekend. Looking at replacement options for him. He wants a full size 3/4 ton,4x4, four door truck.

Maybe an 05 or newer F 250, V 10. Leveling lift with 33"-35" tires for a Havasu runner.?

    What do you think ?

Bought my first V10 last month in a motorhome. The last gas Ford I had was a 97' F350 w/460, it ran like a raped ape. The V10 seems to do ok, but I find myself comparing it to my 08' F250 Diesel, they don't compare. On the other hand the motorhome is somewhere around 14-15K and it seems to get about the same mileage as my empty F250. Other than that it seems to run fine, no issues so far but only a couple trips on it.

    Thanks,

    That's what's funny about the V 10 stories.
Truck and Excursion everyone bitchs about poor mileage.
I know a number of people with Moho's and they all swear by the newer multi valve V 10 engines.

I just traded my '06, V10 F250, 4X4, CC, Short Bed. My favorite truck I've owned. Used to tow my 30' Travel Trailer and I still have a 28' Magic.

Was always my river truck - 3rd vehicle

Cruise set at 73 out to Havasu and averaged 12.5 mpg-hand calc and computer. Never knew the boat was behind it!! Averaged about 9-10 on tank around town and some freeway. Torque comes at the upper end of the tach.

I've changed careers and need a truck every day so I went to a half ton or else I'd still have it.

Can't go wrong with the V10.
    Mines in a 2001 33ft southwind so I have the 2nd gen 310hp V10.
I'm going to put a banks power pack on as soon as I get a spare 2K.
I tow a heavy V8 grand cherokee or a boat.
In a truck it must really haul the mail.

Everyone has their own personal experiences so here's my new Ford V-10 take:
Sucks fuel like a 747 with the power of a '62 Comet 6 cylinder.

Lol...With the toy's in storage out in Havasu the truck wouldn't be used to tow back and forth. Sounds like the engine is thirsty regardless.

There are some great deals on used trucks right now.

    Red face

i pulled a vette from tracy to so cal..on an open trailer.
motor rattled like it had bad lifters the whole way.
got around 11 mpg at 70.

also used a box van once to pull a car on a dolly from havasu to oc..
got 13 mph with the speed governor.
    thing ran like a champ.

    so the jury is out..
prices are soft on used ones..

might be they way to go if you can't afford a chevy with a 6.0 ??

I have an 2000 Excursion v-10 4x4, pulling the force back from havasu
seem'd to have enough power, ran 65 all the way got 8 mpg at the pump.

I have the new 362hp 30 valve V-10w/banks full kit in my mo home
I pull a 24' box loaded.... hauls asz... gets 7mpg at the pump.

I did a car facs on the excursion cause I bought it used, 63k miles
    never in for motor work

IMO Don't do the 6.0L chevy. They get crapy mileage and suck at power.
I have a 2004 GMC 4x4 with the 8.1L in it. Does 12-13 empty and around 10-11 towing my 21 foot boat. Killer power!! Towed from Sacramento to Shasta Lake, only dropped out of overdrive once!! It doesn't drop out of overdrive going from sac to reno empty. My .02

bought an 04 3/4 ton four door 4x4 brand new, ran it till 75k miles, towing a 35' fifth wheel toy hauler and boats, never had any issues with it, gas milage sucked 5-6mpg loaded, it pulled the hills with no problems at all, but stopped at every gas station, only got rid of it to get a mega cab one ton diesel (more room inside). all my buddys run the super duty with v10 as well, some with almost 200k, none have any complaints about their trucks.
