    got a 02 denali just cracked 90k on the 6.0 it has always been a noisy motor as in light tickey lifter sounds since owning but it has never missed a beat or even kick on the check engine light! do all these motor make alot of noise being that they are "roller motors"??? or should is there some re-tourqing to be done??

    I call it the brain tube, I've been telling her the more time she spends on it, the smarter it's going to make her.

    They are noisy. The lifters are zero lash (non-adjustable) like a ford. The noise comes from the short piston skirts though. At least thats what I have been told causes the noise. My 2002 GMC 2500HD makes the same noise. It has from day one.

    yeah i heard the same, i even tryed diffrent oils didnt change nothing was told no need for the heavy oil just run standard stuff cause it stays up top and keeps things more lubricated...

    I had an '01 HD with the 6.0. Dealer was all ready to swap lifters a few times. Then GM said swap pistons. So I got to hear both reasons. The lifter excuse was a switch of suppliers. When they talked of swapping pistons I was warned to be ready for less mpg (maybe as big as 5 mpg) and HP also. More friction due to new slugs fitting tighter. I was horrified thinking of the local dealer's wrenches (trust me these "mechanics" SUCK) being turned on my new rig. Fortunatley, or unfortunatley, the truck was bought back as a lemon due to a mass of other troubles and spending so much time in this f'd up dealership. Seemed like a nice truck just a poor choice of dealers. BUT....
    I know alot of folks that had engines sounding just as bad as mine w/o any trouble for alot of years.

    common to that motor the piston skirts are short and make noise, also the lifters can bleed down overnite and make noise the next day while they try to pump back up. usually that's caused by the oil getting airiated, there's a oring on the pickup tube that can go bad suck air into the oil pump;

    Dare to be different, if it turns out great you can claim you planned it that way.

    Common issue with all the LS-based GM truck motors. I've never really heard of it being an issue... However, I find it annoying.
