Default 2010 vs 2009 Ford PSD

My Duramax has 246k miles and I just had my third set of injectors put in, so I'm thinking maybe now is a good time to trade it in. Since I've had issues with the Chevy, and I don't want a Dodge, I'm thinking Ford. However, I understand Ford has issues as well? Dealers still have 2009's available, and the 2010's are also available, so which would be better and why? Also, are the new Fords really any better than the new Chevys? (This should be interesting)....

I don't own one, but to hear people (owners) refer to them as Power Smokes, kinda keeps me away.Isn't the new 2010 a new engine? Rule of thumb, never buy the first year of a new/ re worked model. Ie: nissan full size running mid size breaks, Toyota tundra, cam issues.

I'd wait for a second-year of the upcoming 6.7L Ford diesel engine...

I would wait a model year. I got pretty lucky with my 04 PSD until just over 104000 when the headgasket blew.

If you do decide on a Ford, Just don't get a 6.0, The 6.4's seem to be a better package, however it has not been out that long. Only time will tell, I don't think it could be any worse than the 6.0 (at least I hope not).

I'm a Cummins fan, However all the new diesels are having issues. The new smog requirements are ruining the trucks. I imagine it will be a good five years before the emissions systems will be refined. You can compare the new diesel smog era as that of the late 70's for gas motors. Trucks will be a mess for a while.

We have two '09 F350 Diesels, the mileage blows, but I like the interior and the HP, I wouldn't trade my "05 F250 PSD for three Duramax's...

EGR Delete, cat delete and synthetic oil in everything and use Amsoils cetane booster and must change the engine coolant every two years due to electrolisys problems (they need an anode IMHO), mine gets over 25 MPG at 70 MPH and 20+ towing about 4000#.

    Doesn;t even notice hills..

Whatever you get, buy a turbo timer.......Temperature terminated...

I just got an 08 F450, and pulled my 45ft WW like it wasn't there. Has anyone done a PDF delete with a tuner, any luck with mileage.

Just curious, can your truck still be smogged? I've heard that the 6.4s pick up a lot of mileage if you get rid of all the emissions crap, sounds like your's is doing well.

Well, their not currently testing them here right now, but no, shouldn't pass without the stuff on it....

Doesn't it seem weird to anyone else that all this carbon credit crap is making things less efficient? Even boilers for heating water and for heating buildings are getting less efficient...Make no sense IMHO..

Yeah it seems counter intuitive that you could get 20+mpg without emissions stuff, but yet 14mpg with the emissions thus burning a lot more fuel. Seems like it all cancels out, just costs us a lot more money.

Thats what this crap is all about. They dont want us to get to good of mpg. If they really wanted the best out of their vehicles , you'd be amazed at what was possible.
As for the new trucks, you dont really think that they want you to get your hands on a truck thats going to go 500,000miles without having to work on it do you? The service department is what keeps the doors open at most dealerships.
Back in 94 my old man had a olds 98 regency witha 3.8v6 all the bells and whistles , front wheel drive and comfortable as hell. It would haul azz , and got over 31mpg. Then years later my wife got a 2002 ford mustang with a small 6cyl. What a dog, the olds would just flat run circles around it and that pos mustang did good to get 20mpg even though it was lighter and less powerful.
Its all in the programing.Think how much more fuel they can sell when they have millions& millions of vehicles out there programmed to burn an excess of fuel.
Its a real shame , we're being hand fed all of this and we go on like zommbies and put up with it.

Don't by a ford diesel that's any new than 2002. The 6.0L are Junk and the 6.4 are no better. The 7.3 is one of the best. Dodge buy a 98-2002 old style 24 vlave. 2002-2008 new style 24 valve 's are all on Dont buy the new 6.7 cummins. The duramax's lb7 and lly's seem to be doing better than the LBZ.
