My 01 supercrew with 5.4 is starting to annoy me..

Trans 3 mos ago

Intake maniford 2most ago

Yesterday, crank but no start. Tow'd to a local shop. Tech has same problem. Identifies no fuel pressure and no spark.. Calls me and says possibly cam sensor or Computer... Starts poking around the wires, and now it's running, but he fixxed nothing.. I'm not taking the truck back until it's fixxed. If I don't trust it, no point in having it..Ugg.. Hate wiring issues.

Q. What's a reasonable number of labor hours to expect to pay to figure this issue out? Seems odd that the wiring issue so closely follow the other two issues.. truck has been perfect since new other than recent issues, so I kinda think new problem may be related to repairs from one of the other two.. What you think??

Thanks

being unfamiliar with fords but familiar with vehicles in general I would say start simple. it is possible a ground was not fully tightend or has worked it's way loose from the intake swap. check all grounds around motor, back of heads etc.. anywehere there might be a ground wire, tighten them really well.

In my experiance there is no reasonable guestimate when it comes to wireing.

Took it to "electric labs", as I suspected wiring, and they've got a pretty good reputation for electric (It's even in the name..:p). They had it for 3 days. It fixxed itself after day 1. Day 2 and 3 starts/runs perfect.. They claim to have checked grounds and obvious stuff. So, I got the truck back and it's like Lotto day everytime I get in the truck to start it.. "Woo Hoo, it starts!"

Was told next time it dumps (and it will), to watch for "Service engine " light when cranking... I guess that'll tell them it it's computer or cam sensor??

On the plus side, They didn't charge me anything.. That was kind of surprising..

steering column wiring? I know your'e geting a crank but no start, but a friend of mine had a F150 SC where he'd turn the wheel and it would try to turn off on him. Just a thought but a shot in the dark.
Guess it could be, but the truck recently had the intake off and Tranny out.. I suspect something it that area.. Maybe I'm wrong.

my friends f150 01 i think does this every once and a while. he usally fixes it by focking with the enertia (sp) switch on the pass side kick panel. he took it to the dealer and had the whole switch mechanism switched out and has not had a prob since.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep that in the back of my mind.. Just feel it's too coooinkydental with the other motor stuff done recently.
