    Default 2004 Chevy Duramax

LLY Duramax motor, 75,000 miles. The Engine Coolant Hot/Engine Overheat lamps are chimming. The temp guage seems to be normal and the motor does not appear to be hot. I have plenty of coolant also. Anyone ever experience this? Any ideas?

Check with Chevy dealer about service bulletin on dash board, this could pertain to your vehicle. The drivers (motors) that operate each gauge start going wacky or out. This might or might not be the problem. Good luck.

I agree with what was said above.

But on another note, the LLY motors are prone to over heating. I would make sure that the cluster isnt just telling you the wrong information with your temp gauge, and that you really might be over heating.

    When does this usually happen?

could be the cluster, but i have also replaced a few coolant temp sensors for this concern as well.
