Anyone around here ever do it? Just looking for feedback before making any decisions on a different camper. The camper would be a bumper pull, not a 5th wheel.... Any thoughts or knowledge on this that anyone cares to share?
Thanks....

REALLY?? MY DAD DID IT FOR 20 YEARS WHEN WE WERE KIDS GROWING UP AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM ONCE WITH THE POLICE. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTOOD WAS THE LENGTH HAD TO BE UNDER THE LIMIT OF 70' AND YOU NEEDED A CLASS A LICENCE BUT I COULD BE WRONG. I STILL SEE PEOPLE TOWING DOUBLES TODAY
Thats one thing I haven't found out yet, if its even legal to tow double with a bumper pull set up. I do know we have an overall max length of 65', but I do need to check on the other. Thanks for bringing that up.
I do see people around quite often that tow double and pretty sure they are not all 5th wheels. I'd probably be the guy they decide to pull over though, lol....
i talked to a guy pulling a 20' camper and behind the camper was a sick sand rail on a tailer. All being pulled off his bumper. He said he never had a problem with the Law. Just dont get stuck in a situation where you have to back up![]()
This has been widely discussed on glamisdunes.com in the RV and Trcuk tech sections. Many have posted the actual law on the site and that is how it written, 5th wheel primary trailer.
Go check it out, there is a TON of info on guys pulling doubles.

Life is all about ass, you're either covering it, hauling it, laughing it off, kicking it, kissing it, busting it, trying to get a piece of it, or behaving like one.
My budby pulls a boat and the a seadoo trailer behind that. CHP in Needles said it was cool.
I do it. The CHP says there is no written law that says you have to have a 5th wheel first. but you are asking an awfull lot of a 2" ball if you dont. I have a 5th wheel and pull a trailer behind it all the time. The length issue is this. If your 5th wheel (1st trailer) is shorter than 29' you can go max length of 75'. If your 1st trailer is over 29' your max length is cut back to 65'.
I did it for a couple of years. I have a class A and had a 26' fifth wheel and trailer behind a Crew cab pickup.
I would never do it again. If you have any cross winds it was interesting to say the least. even passing a truck or bridge would get your attention sometimes.
I ended up putting in seperate brake controllers which helped a lot.
I tow my 29' fifth wheel trailer and my 21' Howard behind that.My puller is a 2001 HD,diesel.I have been stopped but the officer stopped me to check my license.I have a class a with doubles and triples endorsements.I asked the officer what the legal limit was and he said as long as both trailers are no longer than 29' I could tow as many feet as I wanted. In Tex I am not sure laws vary from state to state.I suggest take some time go to your local HIGHWAY PATROL,talk to the commercial enforcement.
False - at least for CA.
A commercial license (Class A) endorsed for doubles allows two trailers of any combination.
There was a rumor that if the first trailer was 5th wheel, you didn't need a commercial license. Which, of course is false. I dealt with commercial enforcement for two solid years and this was one of the most highly asked questions. There is nothing saying you cannot pull two regular "pull" trailers - as long as you have a Class A with doubles endorsement.
