    Default sanger restoration project

Recently bought this sanger picklefork. Here are some pics of what I got. It's my first boat of this kind. Everyones advice and comments are greatly appreciated. It came with bbc Bassett headers. I have a big block motor for it, but it is bone stock. I kind of like sbc's there are so much cheaper to build some really good HP. Thanks everyone.

The first thing you need to do is the tap test on all the flooring, the floors delaminate and rot inbetween the fiberglass, go around and tap everywhere with a screwdriver and listen for dead spots, if the wood is rotted it needs to be cut out and replaced, otherwise your stringers will start tearing out when you start running it.................... Also a big block is a must, that thing won't get by the ice cream man with a small block.............. You need a lot of torque to get the rear end up in the air and make it run.................... There are pleanty of small block guys that will think I'm full of S---............... But dollar for dollar you definately get more out of a big block..................

    Default thanx

Violator, thanks for your .02. I do have a bbc out of a formula that was a stock rebuild by Bill at Ateco in Northern IL. I have tapped the entire hull inside and out, she is solid! I am a boat restorer/mechanic/machinist. But up here it is all recreational boats, the kind that they beat to heck and then bring them in to pay for my daughters college.. I am looking for some pic's of engine mounting, fuel pump setup, oil filter mounts etc. So I can start getting the big idea.
    Thanks again

Also pull the rudder out and where the stuffing box seals it, it will be rusted, have it welded w/ stainless rod and turned down where it seals and buy all new seals and bushings for the prop shaft also..........

What I do is try not to drill any holes in the boat at all costs, I mount everything on the motor and motor mounts and wire a plug so I can pull the whole works in 20 minutes............... I prefer to run a mechanical fuel pump with a fuel rail and a return bypass regulater, make sure you have return bungs on your tank/ tanks............. That way the fuel stays consistent and doesn't pulse high end on a drunken flying mile when you blow all your buddies off in rough water. (does anybody still do that)............Actually I've always been a 2 or 3 beer max kind of guy............but never was afraid to be first!......... second is the first loser..............Those ideas will get the daydreaming started and turn it into reality!!!!!

    Default Cool shovelnose

Kyle, that's a nice looking shovelnose you got there. My first choice was a Hondo shovelnose that I was bidding on E-bay, but missed it by 33 bucks. I "settled" for this Sanger picklefork.

IMHO you got the better of the two boats...

Your V-Drive doesn't have the floor that the Picklefork jet does like mine. My floor was rotten and had to be replaced. You can see the boat in my albums section.

You might have foam from the bulkhead into the sponson area though. If so, you should get rid of it as it holds water, weighs a few hundred pounds and stinks like a sewer.

Good luck with the rebuild, should be a fun project.

Did you buy this boat off Justin? If so I wonder why he got rid of it. He brought it to the Needles v-drive deal a couple of years ago (maiden voyage for him)...Had a great time and then dissapeared. Wondered what happened

I bought it from a guy in Kansas. He bought a 68 chevy truck and the boat was hitched to it. the guy who sold him the truck said he had to take the boat with the truck or no deal!!

Damn that boat looks familiar. I think it used to run at Lake Nacimiento back in the early 80's. I distinctly remember one exactly like that with a blown BBC in it.
