Is there an easy way to find out what material my prop-shaft(s) are made of? Whether its stainless, aquamet, or Monel?
Thanks

The Monel is usually darker in color. The stainless might have more rust on it than the Aquamet but as to being accurate it is anyone's guess. I am sure that there are some experts here, so I hope that they show up and help you out...
Steve
i believe a magnet will not stick to stainless , you may be able to eliminate one of the metals that way !
I guess my question is will a magnet stick to aquamet or Monel?
Monel is darker in color, but Aqua-met comes in different grades. most common is 17, 19, and 22. we only use 19 and 22. I use 19 for up to 450 hp, and 22 for everything else. some venders sell 19 as 22, and they double their profits, and you lose your prop. As a dealer, even I have been sent the wrong material, but we know if they are the real deal when we cut the keyway in the shaft. And don't fall for that by the inch stuff. They hit my door step in 96" lenths. you can rockwell test them.
can you get k monel prop shafts
sorry, I do not. K- monel is good material, But the aq-22 is more compatible with the prop material, at least for us, with todays propellers. If you get real aq-22, and the props are lapped correctly, and the prop keys are made correctly, you shouldn't have any problems. the biggest problem with this is getting the tapers to match, or some prop manufacturers hubs hang off the taper too far. The taper in the prop has to be perfect.
joe im gonna put a call into diez this morning , then to you !, see if i can figure this out ,
