Default Grab some beer and popcorn for this one!

I bought something from a guy on the boards here and it came to me in pieces. I pm him to ask if he has another one because it came broken IMO because it was wrapped in old news paper not a good way to pack a item. He tells me that's ok because it is insured and UPS will get a hold of me. Well a week has gone by and guess what no contact from UPS. Well I got to thinking how they going to contact me all they have is my address and I don't think they are going to drive out in the sticks to see if I am home. So I pm the guy and no response in three days I bet if I had money to give again I would here back! Well if he is like most selling or buying on the boards we check in everyday or at least one would think . What would everyone do about this problem?

This stuff is getting old really fast. I know how you feel as the v-drive I bought from a member showed up in pieces and ended up being a parallel drive. After a few communications he "went missing" It looks like I am planning a trip back east to solve my issue. It is a shame we have to do this CRAP.

    Default On the other hand

Wouldn't it be nice if people receiving items bought here on the boards took just a minute to let the seller know when they (the parts) arrive.

    I used used Fastenal .......

I just had a set of headers and a Deist lifejacket shipped from Stockton Ca to Wasilla Alaska .... FOR $20.50 IN EXCELLENT CONDITION!

Sorry to hear about your terrible, horrible, less than acceptable, sub par (normal) experience with who you used for shipping ... bummer

I shipped an aluminum intake to Dave Sammons some years back for him to install on my boat. I insured it and it showed up broken in several places. I got a hold of UPS and they would not do anything and indicated it was pacakaged wrong. I was stunned but you know they were probably right.

    Default Thanks

Brad, good to hear. I was hoping to actually hear from the O.P. as he mentioned his experience(that he relates in his post) in directions to me regarding packaging my shipment to him. It was a little more delicate in nature and I was hoping to hear that it made it safely. I wrapped it in foam left over from making some pads for my trailer fenders and I was sure not to mark it fragile as this seems to be some sort of challenge to the package handlers. lol

UPS's standard answer, nothing is EVER their fault. Bottom line is anything at all delicated, you gotta double box it. Box it tight then put that box inside another with lots of packing between the two....

When I was a kid on the water everyone would wave as you passed by. Now, not so much.
It's a different world out there folks. Just because they are on a boating site don't mean they are a true boater if you get my drift. You never meet these folks beides there on-line persona. Then on top of that you have never seen the product in person. Takes trust and a bit of balls to make a deal on a website.
If I were you I would,
    post their name,
Google their screen name and blast them on any site they have ever been on,
Google search their name and address, find any relatives with phone numbers (mom and dad fixed one deal that went bad for me took about 10 minutes after i got off the phone with mom),
Google earth their house and mention what it looks like in the next attempt to contact.
Then its time to get dirty.

    Default Ups

I shipped some rockers to a member here. Correctly/safely, shipping dept packaged..... From a set of 16, 13 made it as the corner of the box, was torn open.... You can't tell me the dickwad that was handling it at the time didn't know some pieces fell out, or the driver didn't notice 3 rockers sliding around the truck floor.... Long story short, it took about 2-3 months to get it sorted out having to use the company I was working for as a tool against UPS because it was shipped from the business..... I honestly feel if it wasn't for that business, and their association with UPS, I would have been left holding the bag....

I know what you mean, I hand delivered some stuff to Paul in Parker and I stood on the tailgate and still had to look up to him.
