Default Twin Turbo Plumbing Questions ?????

i have the 1" neovane with a new impeller and all lines are clear of debris.
i have a 1" pickup line going to the intake side of the pump and a 1" line coming from the exit side of the pump going to the intercooler inlet and from there a 1" line coming from the exit side of the intercooler to a distribution block from where the water is sent through the motor and exhaust and everything exits from the exhaust.
the motor idles at 120 runs at 140 at crusing speed and 150-160 at about 5000 rpm but as soon as i stand on it for 30 seconds it climbs up to 180 very fast and i suspect it would keep climbing and i have to let off and bring it back down to cruising speeds to allow it to cool back down which it does right away.
i think the intercooler is restricting the flow too much and my plan is to scoop off the plates straight into to the intercooler and dump from the intercooler right off the back and go from the pump to the distribution block. that way the intercooler wouldn't be cooling at idle either.
    anybody have any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

Sounds like your on the right track by plumbing the intercooler separate. Most go from the water pump 2 outlets into the front of the motor then out the thermostat location and into the exhaust.

We set up a twin Turbo on my son's Campbell. We used a seperate water pick up for the intercooler and that water was dedicated to just the intercooler with an exit out the drivers side of the boat so you could watch it.
The water pump fed the engine oil cooler first and then to the engine. No heating problems at all.

There's a thread here on the boards dedicated to the plumbing of TT boats, I can't seem to find though.

What I did was come off the pump pressure line to a 1/2" T.
One side went to the engine and the other side had a gate valve on it that did the intercooler.
I only had a partial flow to the intercooler and it was sufficient as it was only held WOT for a short time and the heat soak took most of that time.

Depending on if you have a draw through or blow through turbo system is another factor in how you want to plumb it. Constant water flow through the intercooler is fine for a blow through but less desirable for a draw through as the fuel will want to settle out.

Yes running main water through the Intercooler first is not recommended. It restricts the flow of course depending on the core it goes through.
We usually seperate the Intercooler from the engine water on a V Drive type boat and force feed the water via plate pick up.
At times we will split the water coming out of the main water pump to the Intercooler if the volume and existing plumbing allows it.
That thing about you can't run water through Intercoolers at idle is total fairy tale.
You may consider pre-heating the engine water, then seperate the Intercooler but take a good look at the existing plumbing and were the water enters the pick up.
130-150 is a good temp. 160-180 and climbing is entering danger zone.
    Anyway, enjoy👍

Default Take a look at these pictures and could you tell me if this layout is ok or poor.

The info on this site is great. Can you guys take a look at these pictures and give me your feed back. I recently picked up this PFM TT setup for my 460. I am in the process of having that motor rebuilt to add forges pistons, drop the compression to 8.3 and basically make it turbo ready. However, I don't know for sure how t route everything, if I need a timing retard system, or how to even set up the carb. What do you think of the system and please be honest. No need for BS I want to make this thing right. Thanks very much. Jack

just spent all day chasing 5 million hoses and finally figured out how my boat was plumbed and what they "who ever plumbed it" did wrong luckily for me 95% of what's there will work for now and it's as simple as pulling the hose off that that cooled the motor through the out line of the intercooler and pluging it right in to the pump, ditching the line that went from the pump to the in line of the intercooler completely, running a line from a force feed fitting that's already there and capped to the inlet side of the intercooler, then running a line from the out side of the intercooler straight out the back of the boat through a through hull fitting.

    sound about right ????

    Yes, that sounds exactly correct.
