    Default Sanger 5 rib

Ok so I have a stupid question about the 5 rib. Was it a styling que or do the ribs actually serve a purpose?

Hey Billy, what other variations are there besides the three common types? NO ribs, ONE rib (two recessed areas), five rib?

I thought the 5 rib was drag hydro and the other decks were ski-hydro, see you learn something new everyday

Lets make this a history, this info is damn near impossible to find. It would be great to hear from Billy and Harlan when and what hydros Sanger made starting with shovels and going forward. There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding about what is what, i.e. every 5-rib I've ever seen says "5-rib drag hydro".

The Smokin Aces Blue on Yellow five rib, I understand is a SHORTER but WIDER five rib two seater width left hand steer???

In addition to the deck styles I am also hearing about a variety of lengths on the hydro hulls that go with the variety of WIDTHs ( I would assume width to scale with length)...

ANd OLD SCHOOL mentioned "a full tunnel" which makes me think there were different bottoms as well???

Once upon a time I saw a funny video clip of Billy and Jack talking... It was up on Youtube... Anyone have that link???

Yes there were different bottoms as well, this pic is not real good as in shadow but you can see the how the bottom on this is a tunnel about 8 " in from edge...blast plate is the size of tunnel...

    Default Sanger picklefork hull information

74-77 18' first generation hull with short fork sponsons

5 rib deck narrow cockpit drag hull

1 rib deck wide cockpit ski hull - early

2 rib deck wide cockpit ski hull - late

78-84 19' second generation hull with long fork sponsons

5 rib deck narrow cockpit drag hull

2 rib deck wide cockpit ski hull

You could order a wide cockpit ski hull with the drag bottom and outboard steering.

Climax hull - 5 rib drag hull with full length blast plate

Tunnel hull - 5 rib drag hull with small tunnel and short blast plate

In regards to "Smokin Aces" with two bucket seats - You can squeeze two of the very small 17" bucket seats into a 5 rib drag hull.

Thanks for that info! Any idea on what years are early and late for the first gen ski hulls?

OK....I can't tell you what month the production change took place, since you have the HIN numbers what month were they built? I also have two, a 18' short fork 5 rib built in January 1977 and a 19' long fork 5 rib built in April 1978.

Did production of the shovelnose end when the picklefork began or was there an overlap?
