You must be talking about todays "CATS & V BOATS". Just like the old days. Splash a hull on Monday. In business on Tues.

Ski boats, you know, something custom built with a carbureted engine, seating for four, wet exhausts, no numbers, "zz Top" stripes, or 23 colors of candy?
Don't get me wrong, those of you who may know me, know that I own two for real drag boats, ( not cackle boats ), and I love 'em, but the custom hot ski boat deserves to get more print than it's getting. Elsewhere on this site, you can find the Stevens "Morning Wood", or Bandit's find "Agitator", a wooden hulled , Cadillac powered cream-puff. That's what I'm talkin about! Post your custom ski boats boys!
WOW Spike, Really !!!! This is exactly why I did not bring any boats up to the Bass Lake show the last 3 or 4yrs. Attitudes such as this. If a person pours his heart & soul into his boat so be it. John Mullins I would suspect has more time down the liquid 1/4mile then you do. If he chooses to build a cacklefest boat for boat shows, why not. I thought it was badd ass. Not only the boat, but the fact he drove all the way from Oklahoma to do it. As far as the kandy paint jobs & race engined boats, I just figured people wanted to see that stuff as well. I for one appreciate the custom ski boats from yester yrs. I also appreciate the old vintage drag boats. But the way your post sounds its like those of us with custom paint, with race engines, that kackle, aren't worty. If you want to know whats not worthy, look around, look @ the guy who just pulled his boat out from under the "tree boatport" he had it under, and brought it to the show. And didn't bother to even wash it. Then gets upset when he doesn't get a trophy. Im all in for your custom carburated, seats 5 ski boat class. Think it would be kool. Just don't slam those who try & help build these events to do it !! Just my .02

Your boat would be cometition for the most original gel coat and best ski boat. The Rodgers was owned by the original family. They live at Bass Lake. The boat had upholstery seams seperating from when the boat was full of snow. The paint jobs were definately hard to judge. There were several that were top grade. I judged with my daughter. We disccussed all features on the boats in each class.

If you want the truth wrighton I think the whole trophy deal doesn't need be. It just causes problems. It gets old all the inter bickering / backstabbing that goes on. We all love these style boats, at least I do. We should be trying to support these events. Not pick them apart.

Excellent post chief!! I enter these shows just to support and be part of these bitchen events. If the judges like my boat, that's cool. If they like someone elses better, no problem I still have a great time!!

Hey Guys, rare back! Read my initial post AGAIN! I NEVER slammed anyone, in any spoken, or printed way, about how they run the event. NOR, can ANY of you find in my post that I ever said that those candy painted and race engined boats weren't "worthy", so DON'T, I REPEAT , DON"T, paint me as some irate loser. And, check the posts,I didn't call the judging at Bass Lake a "Fuckin' Joke" ( yeah, someone said, I, should take it down a notch!) , someone else posted that. Has anyone told that guy to put a lid on it? Why not?
What I said was, "...the photogs concentrated on only those, from what I could see posted", and my intent, was to spur those amongst us, who may be equally proud of their "ski-boat", as the high dollar restored boats, to go ahead and show off their toys. Period!
Had I, posted my opening remark on the Bass Lake thread, that, might have been unfair to those who got photographed, but I didn't do that. I started a NEW thread called Custom Ski Boats to address just that group of boats.
It is a fact, that the overwhelming majority of hot boat owners have hot ski boats, not show boats, or race boats, but many of these are really cool and should get some acalades for being what they are...bitchin'!
So, can we all be on the same page about this, please? , and have some class. Note, that I haven't posted any photos of MY completely restored '65 Blown Gas Hydro, ....and, I... have no intentions of showing off MY other 5-time record holding vintage, historic, drag flat. It's not about those. This ain't the thread for those showboat draggers, or K-boats, or cracker box racers, or multi-engined ocean friendly boats, or wakeboard boats, or competiton ski-boats a' la ski nautique types, or ocean boats, etc. Let's see v-driven ski boats!
I just saw a wood decked '59 Schiada flatbottom, powered by a tri-powered Pontiac at Spindler Engineering today that was spotless, sanitary, and flat knocked my socks off this morning, when I was there. I'd LOVE to own it. Stuff like that is what I think everyone can appreciate, and we should embrace them.

Im not a big poster on the boards but I love the read about all the different rides. Here is a pic of our first family owned ski boat. 1980 DiMarco semi -v bottom. I now run an old ski racer turned lake boat. Its not race or show boat but Im proud of her just the same.
