Default Sportsman Entry Burley Awards & Prizes

Sportsman Entry class has received some very generous donations of awards & prizes for the upcoming Burley Nationals which at this point totals up to about $7,000 not including the $500 per boat tow money. Tom Hindley Jewelry Mfg., Dodson's Jewelers & Greg Stone have donated a custom made gold pendant for 1st place and silver pendants for 2nd & 3rd valued about $1,500. Ron Hill has donated propellers, Bill Faulkner a cash award and Security Race Products also with certificates. There is merchandise/certificates from the following as well: Rex Marine, MLJ Engineering, Performance Carbs, Will's Pit Stop, Prop Works West, Holiday Motorsports & D'Cucci Thermal & Powder coating. There are more in the works and also I have printed a special Sportsman Entry Burley t-shirt.
Our fearless leader, Paul Grichar has secured many of the above mentioned prizes for SE class & it's first national event, as incentive to come out and race.
So keep burning the midnight oil, get your SE program together & get it to Burley

    Default You all back

Hope everyone had a safe trip home, it's kind of intimadating towing 12 hours! So how did these prizes get handed out? Sorry Mel for your dilema but if you carry extra bearings and a grease gun, this just never happened to me! However, when I did not have my emergency trailer box with lug nuts, bearings seals and extra stuff, I did take out an inner bearing! Go figure. The bearing race turned inside the spindle and I glued it in and synthetic greased it good and as far as I know that trailer single axle is still manuvering down in California! So who won the goodies?

Burley was great. Our SE class was given some very generous prizes including cash and certificates for products & services which were distributed to the 1st through 5th place racers per the donors requests. Black Lake is next, only two weeks away and we already have some prizes donated for that event which include a Ron Hill propeller, certificates from SRP and Holiday Motorsports, and Norco of Burley. Anyone who would like to add to that can contact the vice chairman, Dave Weber or myself.
The rules for the class are simple, so please make sure you understand them. The minimum weight of 1850# is AFTER heat of racing. For those of us who rely on truck & farm scales to weigh our boats on the trailer, it is recommended that you are 25 to 50 pounds over as they can vary by a percentage. The APBA inspectors weigh your boat with a crane...more accurate.

    Default give credit where due!!!

No one mentioned Mel winning all heats and being DQed for illegal carb spacing! Other boats were light I understand that but SE10s 2 inch spacer was in the rules as legal but the gasket ,throttle plane, and scoop attachment thickness added app 3/8 inch to that. So he was disqualified??? Sounds like SS to me where you have to mill one down which is silly to me instead of allowing boats to run within reason! He weighed 200 lbs heavy I hear and put a whooping on the class! So all of you out there CAN run a heavy old boat effectively!!! Why wasnt this reported so anyone doesnt have a similar tech snaffoo?
Way to go Mel! Here is his pretty boat formerly E10:

So in a nutshell, your dieting cost you more than new clothes? Truck scales are accurate if weighing 30,030, not 3000#! Learned this drag racing and pinching weights for more performance. We weighed a funny car at 2300# by itself and then added a big truck and trailer to find out the difference from loaded to unloaded was 400#s !!! Had to weigh it 3 times to get it right and of course the Semi scale owners were right, not our little wheel scales like the stock car guys use! Live and learn. Did anyone get prize money or stuff?

That boat was the class act of the class BY FAR! As for the carb spacing, WITHIN REASON JERK? Sounds just something you would say. If it was left up to you, the class would fall somewhere between a free for all and a clusterphuck. Lets see, .475 lift is only .025 for max limit, 1.60 is only .1 from a legal rocker. A 650 carb is less than 10% away from legal, 383 is only 20 measly cubic inches from max, and with a 64 CC chamber. a .022 shim gasket with the piston in the hole .013 it only 11.5 to 1 compression.

A Jerk, you're only 1 IQ point from a complete moron!
