    Default gear question

Last weekend i was at urvine and boat ran bitchen and now that the motor is dialed in and i finally understand how to drive it, lol , i believe i need more gear and then will fine toon with a prop change as the one thats on it i cant even tell what it is.
    Boat - is a 1985 eagle b bottom(similar to a beismeyer bottom
    motor is a 500ci cheverolet with 8 lbs a boost (aprox 750)
gears are belived to be 18s
current rpms is 8300 on the tattle tale jones tach
current mile per hour is 95 per daves radar gun (seems faster lol)
i soke to menkins and they have a set of 30s for me and i just wanted some input to see if that seemed like the right step or if im gonna over shoot my mark( 7200 red line)

    thanks for all your help

Sounds about right if you want to drop your rpms. I have the same boat, the Stacey's PS303, and it had 29's in it.

This is only based what RPM I see. I don't know what prop you have. In my opinion 30's might make it lazy on your ET. I would suggest 25's . If your set-up is good and your power is what you say. You should ET good and run 112 to 120 MPH if you have a good prop. P.M. me if you have any questions. Good Luck, RACERICK

I agree with Rick, 22-25% gear......especially if you have a 16 pitch prop (more than likely). If you don't have a 16 pitch, you should! Jocko

Thank you for the help guys, i did decide to go with 30s from menkins cause thats what he had right now, and now im a bit worried about it lol. If its turns out lazy i guess i will just have to put a tad bit more boost to her. Once i try it out i will fine tune with a prop. Thank you all very much

If your not racing it, you should be fine. A little more boost is nice to have available! The Stacey's boat was slow off the turns due to the higher gear, but then I'm not sure they ever got the injected motor to run correctly either. I have ditched the injection and am going carbed on E-85 and a 15 gear. My son wants to race the Nos 80 and the 95 class if enough boats get built.
