    Default Burning the prop

I was talking to a friend about the stevens and we were talking about the prop that came with the boat how close it would be.He said if it burns (slips) when I accelerate hard it might be to small it was very rough out today but it did seem to slip and I had to feather the throttle to get it to hook up.I'm so new to v drives dose it sound like I might need more gear or different prop or is it like stern drives where it's more top end rpm any help would be appreciated

    Default spinning the prop

think of the prop as a hi stall torque converter, then tell us what it does....

I just went thru the same thing with the boat i bought this year i tried about 3 differant styles of props before i foujd one that would hook up i even went to 22% gears from 15% with no change in speed or traction i even moved the engine placment in an effort to get a change, i tried a three blade menkins 10.5 x 15 with agood amount of back rake the boat was quick and would jump out of the hole but ran out real quick then went to a two blade 11.25x16 with almost no backset and had no traction at all would spin 6k with the big gear and go nowhere then tried a 11.5x15 with no back set but had bigger ears on it i picked up a little hole shot but still no speed finally i found a similar boat with a 11.25x15 menkins with a good amount of back set and a cup and it turned it into a totaly new boat picked up speed and holeshot now its what it should be just needmore engine to spin it faster it took alot of trying to find one that worked im no pro at all but strut angle seems t have a big effect on what type of back set you need on your prop just from hat i have found in my own explorations Hope i have said something helpfull

How high does it rev if you hammer it? Mine will burn 4000 till it picks up some speed, then it picks up rpm and then the prop hooks up
and loads the motor hard for a ways and then it starts making more rpm....and i chicken out around 6400. Your results will vary for sure and i know very little about anything. lol

My deal is a hydro and i have waay to much gear in it and a short stroke bbc that is a little short on torque so it doesn't burn as hard as it could. Silly ass 455 would burn 4500 same gear/prop and pull 5100 way faster than little bbc.

And i was out today to, yep, kinda rough....Most any low speed driving had the prop hooking and slipping...maybe from pockets of air under the boat? Rough water on the gas and no slip.

And the torque converter analogy is close...like a 4k stall

Tire spin (excess) of the line is close too. Enough traction to spin hard without over rev and tire hooks up and car pulls harder.

Seem like the more you try to spin it, the less it will spin.

Not exactly for sure, feel free to tune me up if i am wrong but i think it all about getting the motor to spin to peak hp as soon as possible and keep it there or higher...for as long as you dare
