I don't know how plates should be setup on a Hondo true flat but I'd love to see photos of your boat.

Ryan(Warpt71) has a Hondo flat, maybe he can help you with your plate setup.

Lotsa variables here, pictures and more info will help. Mine sets alright, it doesn't cary the nose, but will run flat and not hop. Always been told to start out level w/ the hull, 0° or neutral. I think mine likes a little up. Mine runs right about 90 on a good day, 110 is impressive. Let's see it
I'll paddle my flat before I drive anything else!

Whats a "teague custom"? I have a 71 Hondo flat and it would help to know more about the way your boat is set up. No two boats are set exactly alike and it is not possible to give you exact plate set measurements. Provide more info and one of us Hondo owners might be able to help you.

.............. bob teague with teague marine was the builder of this boat in 95.. as a pro stock drag (RATS ASS) this boat completely hung its fin and carried the nose.. its a true flat with solid cav plates, the engine is shifted foward for better equal balance at flat out..ive ran this boat for alomst 2 decades and know all the ins and outs to flat and runner bottoms but dont know squat about the proper cav plate set up.. but after my flatbottom guru brither n law did me a favor with out asking and messd with my plates it has never been the same...i dont want to mess with it untill i know what im doing..any thoughts

Ok, I didn't know Teague did small boats. As for plate set up I set mine working from the center out, 2 center t/b set with a slight 'up' angle from parallel of hull, start with 1.5+/- turns up, next t/b about 1 turn up, 3rd from center parallel to hull or slightly down and outside t/b a downturn, maybe 3/4 to 1 turn down. Plate will have a slight gullwing and should be a pretty good place to start. As said all boats are different so your plate will no doubt need further tweaking. Keep in mind this adjustment is done with pedal in the up position and your assembly has sufficent travel. Disclaimer: This adjustment is approximent and recommended as a starting point. This plate setup works well on my boat, your results may vary.

so if i understand you correctly the gull wing in the center should be going up like towards the engine not down towards the water..

On a true flat the gull should be on the outside going to the middle. We set ours up just inside the first turnbuckle. Try a 1/8 gull and make it look like an eye. The gull is an extension of the chime line at the plate. It sounds like your falling of the rocker and the nose keeps crashing.

Here's a little about my set up, maybe it will help. '71 Hondo true flat, 12* v-drive w/ 12% gears, 8* strut, motor is 36" from transom and v-drive is 96". Motor is a "427", old tunnel ram w/ a pair of 660's, 990 heads and about 11:1 compression. Spins up past 7000 and the prop is some old 11"x14. Not much has been done to modernize it.

This pass was gps'd at 87 and thats w/ a 300lb passenger lol
