Ya know that wouldn't discourage anyone in this crowd from eating that sammich, right.
This thread highlights the point the internet is a fun place to BS, but you can't actually learn to drive a flat here.
To the OP, I agree with Dave Sammons and JBG said, an up pedal has no place in a modern drag flat. Probably true in circle boats but I don't know much about them (but getting ready to learn!!)
In Circle boats, I use the Up Pedal. Since I cannot afford power assisted Down Pedal, I can run the old fashion spring type with not so much tension on it so as to not kill my left leg in 5 miles. On a single pin turn in good water, after the start of the turn, I will step on the Up Pedal to limit the drag around the turn. It does not seem to change the attitude of the boat while turning. When the boat straightens out, it is much free-er and it is back on the Down Pedal. Just my preference.
I got tossed out of a double pedal circle boat and cleared the pedals OK. Of course it was a D'Cucci with the cut-a-way deck. That might be a good thing to have.

I read the OP's question and immediately stepped away. I know not nearly enough to get into this one.
When I put my Barron Sprint together, I was told to cut the "Jesus" peddle off. I was told I'd possibly meet Jesus Christ himself if I used it or got caught up in it.
My new boat has this system in it, air assist down peddle. Without the air, it's like leg pressing 250lbs.

The OP says in the title of this thread "Be Serious". There's tons of talented guys on the forum that could really be a big help to guys like the OP, and me, but I'm afraid to believe anyone because of all the joking around. I just lurk and try to separate the bs from the truth. Kind of hard to do when you don't know.
I would have thought by now you would have figured out who has it right and who would have been better off doing like you are. Reading and learning.
Even with all the MISINFORMATION on this thread, it still pretty easy to tell who KNOWS, and who should be in the kitchen making samiches![]()

The problem with Obama jokes is that his worshippers don't think they are funny, and the rest of us don't think they are jokes
OK. my 2 cents on my set-up. Yes i have a down pedal but i only use it as a hold at speed. I use the lock collar set dead against the stop on the rod, no up. When you see the position of our plates on the trailer that is the way they would look on the water at speed. So i guess it is all a matter of setting the plates right, and i leave that all up to my pops the plate guru. bottom line for me i only use the up pedal as a hold for the plates, any more than that and i would probably wind up on my lid sooner than later.
I guess that would be a serious reply and answer from someone WHO KNOWS. X2 on the Nightmare is bad ass Johnny
