There used to be an all wood Wickens Whirlwind SK which used to race in the Northwest called Together. It had an adjustable plate which was hand cranked.

Follow that cav plate rod, it's on the outside of the right stringer and certainly terminates inside that box housing some kind of gear (worm gear maybe).
I just flashed on that 7 minute video of Tony in the K-boat. Remember the part showing his footwork on the pedal(s).............wouldn't it be hilarious if they mandated these box/hand cranks in the K's??!!Jocko
