Default 67' sanger 17'10'' engine placement

looking to see if anyone is running a similar set up or would have advice on engine placement

tunnel rammed 402 chevy spins 6500rpm with 22% gears and a 11.5x15 two blade prop and only goes 70ish because i have to put so much down pedal in it to keep it in the water if i let up on the pedal at all it jumps out of the water "like the whole boat not just the nose" i have a slight down plate at my neutral setting ill have to check my strut angle to give more info for you guys to analize thanks

If you only have 2 bucket seats in your boat then try to get the rear motor plate about 34" from the transom

I have a 17'10", with a 410" sprint car motor going in it. I set the rear motor plate 35 1/2 inches from the transom. Not sure exactly how well it's gonna work yet. But I figure moving it forward can't hurt since it weighs less than a big block.

this is about where it sits now..................
im only about 180lbs and this boat has a longer deck with a pretty long steering colum so i sit pretty damn close to the engine i can reach back and grab the carb linkage while sitting plus i have two 12-15 gallon imco tanks that are mounted pretty far back and usually one of them is full and the other about half full maybe ive just got too much weight over the rear of the strut

    Default Sanger engine placement

Enter a plea for Dave Sammons to reply to your request he helped me out in a hurry. You must have these measurements: Quoting Mr. Sammons
    "Strut angle
Distance from the strut barrel to the transom(or end of plates if they're on it)
Distance from transom to V-Drive plate
    Estimated horsepower of engine
Once I can see those numbers...I'll get you close(Be honest on the HP!!!)
    Dave"

YOU have way to much gear in it, thats the first thing i would change ..... try 15's or 18's
35 '' from transom is good

It had 15% gears in it when i got it ran 55 mph at 5800 rpm with a 10.5"x15 pitch 3 blade menkins thats why i put the 22s in it if i can turn the 22s to 6500 then im thinking that there is something else wrong

What is the measurement from the back of the prop, (at the hub), to the end of the plate? Also, how long is the plate?
    I don't know what I don't know because I forgot !!!

what is the measurement from the inside of the transom to the center of the v-drive? I`ve owned 2 sangers and both of them were wild acting but the v-drive wasnt far enough forward. I moved the motor all over the place and it seemed to help alittle bit but I think if I wouldve move the v-drive further forward it wouldve been better. I think my measurements were in the high 80`s on both of them..
I cant remember what site (I think it was on Drag Boat Alley) a guy took a Sanger that was wild riding moved the v-drive / motor. The video he posted the boat looked great afterwards but that is a little bit of work but if your dead set on running one of those old boats you have to change some things around.
My new boat the v-drive is 101" but the strut angle is much less than those Sangers I owned.

I`d do what ever Mr.Sammons or a couple others say to do on this site or it will cost a bunch more trying different things until you figure it out. I`d be $30,000.00 ahead if I wouldve knew the right people back then to ask .. Good Luck

Ok got my measurements minus where the strut is will have that tomorrow
95" from transom to v drive plate 34" from transom to rear motor plate
Prop 11.5x15 menkins spins 6k all day long with the 22s estimated hp is 425-450 I went from a pretty much bone stock 454 to a mid compression 11:1/11.5:1 396 with open chamber ovals tunnel ram and a crane fire ball cam

This is only a question, because I just did it. But are you sure the gears are in the right way? The only reason I ask is like I said I just put mine in wrong when I switched to the 25%. Anyways once I flipped the gears over I couldn't pull more than 5100-5200. I have a 454, 396 closed chamber oval port with a large cam and at the time running a single 750 demon. I came from 15% where I could turn past 6200. Currently I'm running 18% with the same motor but with a mag a dual 660's and I pull about 5800. I'm running a 11-5/8x15 stellings prop. But like I said if you need more gear I have the 25% that I need to get rid of. Good luck
