Default v-drive on the river questions.... please help.

I live on the Sacramento area and the closest water to me are the multiple rivers that run through my city. Is driving a flat bottom v drive on the river a no no? The reason I ask this is because I have never even driven a v drive and these things don't have reverse. Should I learn and get comfortable on the lake first? I don't want to get on the river and not know how to get out without wrecking my boat into the side. Thanks in advance.

It would be easier on a lake, CFW is close and v-drive friendly and plenty of people willing to help or answer questions. Depending on where on the river you put in you will have currents to deal with which can be a handful for a newby. You could go south and find calm water in the Delta above Stockton.

I take my Cole out the the Sacramento river occasionally. I go on weekdays when its not very busy. When there are a lot of big boats out, the ride isnt very much fun. I usually cruise down from Swabbies to Miller park and back up.

We put in right there at Garcia bend all the time. But Like joel said weekdays are better...oh and try to stay up river and watch out for the water cops, they not to friendly towards loud boats.

Cool. Thanks for the replies you guys. I just want to hit the water as much as possible if I get this boat I'm thinkin of trading for. I am excited to get into this hobby and even decided to trade my bike for a boat because my boat project is probably two years away. Can't wait!

No doubt. What you think though rhino? I think sangerss396 will be happy with this trade. The bike is so close and if he put 1500 into it he could sell it for double what he could get for his boat.

Thanks rhino. I really appreciate that. It's a hard trade because I really want to keep my bike but I don't have a license because of damn child support(long story). So I figure ill let mama drive me to a boat ramp and go nuts!
