I drove it once and put maybe an hour on it. I sold it three days after I bought it.
Why?
I never really intended to keep it. I was looking for a jet at the time and made an offer on this boat and was surprised he took it and knew it was worth it just to flip it. After taking it out and realizing I was pretty clueless and that it was a pretty fast boat that I could get hurt in, I decided to take the money and run.
That being said. I found out from the guy who bought it from me that it wound up going to my home town 1400 miles away to a very well respected engine and boat guy (Drew Backlund of drew marine) who originally built the motor and did the install for the boat some 30 years ago. I know the guy and after he got the boat he tore it down and pointed out that both of the head gaskets were failing, the carbs needed work, the engine mounts were loose and the ride plate was improperly adjusted all of which made sense to me as I didn't feel that comfortable in the boat even though we did several passes in excess of 70mph.
So I did the right thing but on reflecting, I wish I had kept it and had the boat gone through by someone who knew their head from their ass. Woulda coulda shoulda.
So now I wish I still had it, and want to try to get something else going in its place. Fair enough?![]()
I was just stating what Jim Cole said to me. When i took my Tr1 to his shop Jim Cole said.... Quote. ( That TR1 will make a great River Hot Rod.... But don't go putting a bunch of power in it you will blow it over.. ) After putting my motor at 35" mind would take a nice set... Most TR1's that i have see seem to take two hopes before they set. I loved my TR1 and had 11 years of fun going up and down Parker Strip in it...
What it looked like when I had the most fun with it... Wish i had it still looking like this...
Tony, I've got a Pit bull that I adopted from one of the trucking co's I employ, he wandered into their yard and did'nt leave, I'm looking at him sleeping on my couch.
My TR2 only has a 5 gal tank and i can't drive / have fun with it like i did with the TR1. It was fun taking my TR1 all the way up to the dam and back 30 miles round trip. Now its 3 mile up river and three miles back out of gas.... The TR2 is a drag boat not a river hot rod.
