carbonman, I'll throw in my 2 cents and tell you the first thing I see when I look at the boat is the headers, not that beautiful deck on a beautiful boat. If I saw the in first, it would be something else, but I see pipes first. Something about that is wrong.

Carbonman...Call Rick King...he has a Barron Sprint running logs that runs in the 110 range...and you will not need snails...use Glenwood's and normal exits and you will be fine...my brother has the same hull and exhaust ports are in the same spot...bolt them up and take a pic and post...but PLEASE don't do it...let us look at the drop once you bolt them up...but PLEASE don't do it...

I have to go watch BSU game so I won't be able to talk with you...but I will tomorrow...by then you will have a consortium of opinions..

RCL...thanks for not telling me to mind my own business

Logs, I just got my 1965 Cambell flatty with a new wood deck from John Miller and it is definitely get logs. I have a set of bib port Glenwoods, 2" ports that came with a turbo system that I bought with 45* turn downs that I will sell you. They are polished but need to be redone.

Let me come over and help you get rid of the trash. I can think of a couple projects around hear that those trash headers would work on. But your boat does look 90% better with the logs back on. Once they are polished you'll have the full 100% improvement.

I see you already made up your mind but I just have to tell you that is a spectacularly beautiful boat. You have done an unbelievable job. I am new to this boat owning thing. I have a 67 Belmont ski boat Dad built. The first comment I get when these guys see it for the first time is to leave it alone. The way it was built. Era accurate and specific. I agree and understand it better the more of these boats I get to see. Ive got a borrowed Demon carb on mine right now and it just screams to be replaced by a carb available back in its day (which I am working on). I appreciate preserving these boats, as they were meant to be. I agree with all the comments these guys made, helping you to come to the decision to trash can the headers. I respect their opinions. Great photo response by the way. If these guys say you wont regret it, I believe them. When I saw the headers, I thought they were cool. When I saw it with the logs, I saw your whole boat, all blending together. It is a classic. Cant wait to see the finished product.

It no longer needs those valve covers because it no longer has the headers that needed the slope cut to clear the headers. The Eliminater would be a good place for them as well.
I am thinking a set of nice finned VCs with color hi lites between the fins. Like a set of Moons or Eelcos.

Beautiful job on the wood/paint finishing. Who did the work?.

Good call on the exhaust logs!!

im partial to some nice old school finned aluminum valve covers over the painted ones..here's a pic of my sbc in my Stevens wood deck . I think it looks cool to match brands..edelbrock exhaust match the edelbrock valve covers..match intake...etc...

1st off Carbon man, BEAUTIFUL job. I can truly respect the time you have in this project. No one realizes the time it takes to do a job of this caliber unless they experience doing it themselves. Nicely done on thinking outside the box & losing the headers.:))THumbsUp

The other thing I love about threads like this are the "lounge chair" boat builder. There comments are worth every minute I spent reading this entire thread. I just wish they would post pics of there boat. It better be as top notch as this or there opinion......Well you catch my drift..:wink2:
