Missed

You missed the obvious, this also lowers the drivers seat (center of grav) or allows for seat shock absorbers, so you could say a multitude of advantages but at what cost??? Nice pictures Spike! Isn't that #9 boat still doing shows and cruising??

If you look at the picture of the Rayson with the SOHC Ford, you will see the back of the seat is setting on the stringer, and nothing was gained in lowering the seat.

I believe that particular#9 is long gone. I don't remember the boat ever doing shows. Maybe you are confusing it with the 20ft flat. That's not the same boat.

I have a photo of Rudy Ramos himself sitting in a wood decked Rayson, that I believe was blue and yellow on the sides. The photo was taken some years ago, maybe '01, at a boat racer's reunion at the N.H.R.A. museum in Pomona . I had the photo enlarged to 11" x 14" and doesn't fit in my scanner. ( I don't know what I did with the original sized photo I took). Perhaps I can wedge it in somehow into the scanner it so I can share that photo with you guys. The boat is very reminiscent of #9, but with a wood deck and a blown/carbed 454 Chev. I don't remember the owner's name.

That boat belongs to a guy named Gene Dangle. Its a different boat than the one you posted earlier. Its the 1st 20FT flat. Rudy only raced that boat one time at the Orange Bowl Regatta at the Miami Marine Stadium. It was powered by a fuel injected Boss 429 that was installed in the boat by Ford, and removed after the race.

GN7, we were probably standing right next to each other taking Rudy's picture. Your photo(s) is from Pomona as are mine. Yes, obviously, it's a different boat. I knew that, but commented because of the blue/yellow motif. That is the boat I have the photo of, and Rudy is wearing the same shirt. My picture is more like the second photo ( no windscreen ), although I was more focused on taking Rudy's picture than photographing the boat. It's a nice piece.

I drove Rudy to Hot Boat Reunion that year, so chances are I was in ear shot when you took your picture. That shot was actually taken by the owner Gene. He was pretty excited to see Rudy there, and had him sign the dash of the boat, as well as a slew of brochures.

Rudy originally sold the boat to a guy named Jim Anderson, who had another 20ft flat (white w/glass deck) that is still in Rudy's garage and his SIL is putting back together.

You can still buy pictures of the boat in the '69 Orange Bowl Regatta from the Miami Herald.
