Picked this up this week to start putting together, it went straight to the glass shop. Anyone know the history of this boat...last CA sticker was from 2001. Had purple flames in front to gray base in back.
Flocoated the floors while everything is out getting coated...getting close! Final assembly should start after I get back from Needles. Also need to get this guy named "Rick King" some money so I have a motor for this thing!!!! Both Daughters dance and it is financially draining this time of year...
Thanks Dave! We actually are trying a more flexible epoxy resin to see if it works better than cloth...I am restoring a wooddecker also and I wanted to experiment on this boat because the problem I had with the wood deck was the fiberglass mat cracking so trying out some newer technology I guess you could say...it is just Gelcoated with white Gel at this point.
Hey Brock- the epoxy sounds interesting for this- do you know of anyone that's used it this way long term or is this it's big test in this application? Also did you guys use a polyester gel coat over that epoxy directly or is there some sort of interface coating between them? I've read somewhere on here that polyester resin over epoxy resin was a no-no. This old brittle gel coat on mine had me thinking I'd have to at least glass over those areas with a surfboard weight of glass mat or cloth, or start grinding each and every spider crack out all over the exterior. Inquiring minds wanna know.....thanks!
Hey Brock, it was great meeting you this weekend. This event was the best one yet. Great boats, great cars and great people. ya can't beat that. Keep the pictures of the LP coming. It is going to be a nice piece when you get it finished.)THumbsUp
Make sure you let us know when you get her wet as I would love to see her in the water. Hopefully I will be in town when you get her done and will be able to watch ya run...
Got Everything back from coating last night and got some of it unpacked and put together...Heading down to Rick King's shop today so we can start building the motor.
brockkeenan,
Looks like a very nice boat. I didn't know harlan is still doing wood decks, he's almost 80 years old.
He only does the wood part not the fiberglassing over the wood.
A friend of mine had his wood deck done by a guy named john miller who does the complete job wood and fiberglass.
I've seen other wood decks he's done and they are outstanding.
Good luck with your stevens!
Block came in and Blast plate complete. Boat is at gelcoat one last time for some touch up and comes back today. Menkins got my v-drive on Tuesday to rebuild and beef up. Final assembly starts this weekend!!!
Everything looks great Brock, It's coming out bitchin!!!)THumbsUp)THumbsUp)THumbsUp
