Default Looking 4 CA Registration Help/Suggestions

    Hey Guys,

I have an 84 Cole that I'm selling, and when I bought it the seller said that it had "never been registered". It doesn't have a title and supposedly has never been registered. I've got two questions that I was hoping the "pool of knowledge" could help me with:

    1. Did Cole sell boats in the 80's without titles? Bare hulls or otherwise???

    2. What's the best way to get a boat registered in CA (with no paperwork) without a lot of hassle?

    Thanks in advance, John.

when i bought my California performance tunnel, it was strictly a drag boat, and had never been registered. it was simple, you just need a bill of sale! you file a form for certificate of title. put the hin#'s and call it what ever you want. only thing that i found out, was that the tax man found out i had a new boat because i registered it.... bam $250 stones a year prop tax! should have left it alone. i wanted a pink, to make it more legit if i ever sold it. tell dmv what your doing and they will give you the forms you need. very simple. hardest part for me was getting signatures from the old owner, they ended up comming from my pen. good luck, Nelson.

Here's the deal in CA. I once bought a B-Boat that was 4 year behind in current tags. It cost me $800 in late fees and transfer cost over two previous owners to register the boat and trailer. Current taps are golden. If you buy a race boat, never registered, subtract $1000 from the asking price, AND .... if you ever own a boat registered as Special Contruction and you crash it into bits at a race .... keep the tags current for $5 a year for ever in case you run into another "no registration" deal !!!!
    I don't know what I don't know because I forgot !!!

if your selling it why do you want to register it..sell it as is just make sure the trailer is titled.or you can sell both with a bill of sale only.or get a paperless title application or special construction app on line and give it to the new owner.

I think I would get hold of Jim Lange because he would know. I have "heard" of race boats built with no ID numbers...but never seen it.

When I had my first Canyon built in 89 I got a manufacturer's statement of origin. It had the date of sale and the HID #'s. I never registered it but the guy I sold it to did. He simply took in the MSO and a bill of sale and the DMV registred it no problem. Of course that was in 94-95... not sure how it works now. Would like to hear how it works out since I'm thinking about registering my current Canyon to use it as a lake boat.

well, i did the cp in 2006, no varification needed. they just had me fill out the paperwork and it was done. didnt need anything from the manufacturer, just a bill of sale. cal perf wasnt in thier records, so i could have called it anything i wanted. good luck.

    Default make up

make up some #'s... the city told me my new boat house violated all kinds of building codes. i lifted it, put an axle and a tounge on it, threw a perm trailer license plate on it and told the code enforcement it was a trailer parked in my driveway! a month later i cut the axle out and cut off the tounge. theres more than one way to skin a cat! boat house is still siting where i built it.
