Looking for info on WA

might be moving to WA to assist some family for a while. I was wondering what is around? The area is port ludlow. Is there any fresh water lakes/rivers near by? whats the weather like? Job opportunities? etc. etc.

From what i understand that general area is pretty much remote and dead. no jobs etc. So i'd have to drive but to where? I have a very large back ground in uppermanagment, project managment etc. for multimillion dollar construction jobs and have spent the past 7 or 8 years building hotrods/drag cars/ custom show vehicles etc. If there is nothing decent in these fields i have considerd looking into law enforcment. anyone have any info they can share?

Port Ludlow is only about 30 minutes away from me. Freshwater is limited on this side of the sound but there are a number of large lakes and the Snohomish River across the sound that the gang hang out at. It's not a bad drive. Probably 2 1/2 drive to the south sound lakes from there.

Salt water? You're gonna be surrounded by it.....tons of boating opportunities. What type of boat do you have?

The Port Ludlow area is is pretty much a rich retired communitiy and not much (that I know of) for work. Cross the Hood Canal Floating bridge towards my place and work becomes more available especially for the Navy.

I cross the sound every day to work on the other side as many others over here do as well. Housing is extremely affordable and makes the commute worth it.

Weather is typical Western Washington stuff. Some great weekends in May and then we dont see the sun till after the 4th of July. From there is "usually" good till mid September and then it goes in the toilet from there till May again.

I just got word that Everett police department has opened up 6 new positions for 2009 for law enforcement. Other than that it is somewhat hit and miss with jobs. Good luck on your decision.

thanks guys.. how far is everett from port ludlow? Is there much in the way of jobs or interest even in performance boats or custom cars/ hot rods? anywhere within 30-45 minute drive?

I'm going to be over there to build a beach front home, so i'll have some time to line up something while i'm doing that. just didn't want to jump into this totally blind. i don't want to up and move the whole family if I can't get decent employment within a reasonable distance.

I have a 18' jet. 2.5 hour drive to use the boat is not for me. No interest in putting into salt water

hows the basic income, taxes, etc etc..

It's probably best to mention that some of the gang up here accuse me of living in BFE. Ludlow is even further out so if you were planning on living there, employment could potentially be a challenge. Getting to Everett from there daily would be a pain. For example, I live in Silverdale and work in Bellevue. I have a 2 to 2 1/2 hour commute in the morning and a similar or potentially longer one home in the evening. This is by taking the ferry (which is what you would have to do) so while that adds to the time factor, as far as a way to commute is pretty cool.

In Silverdale area there is a strong interest in custom cars/hot rods. There are a handful of shops that do this type of work though to be honest, I don't know how the economy is effecting them. There are a couple of guys on Skagens board that also do this type of work and might be of help to you.

The only fresh water that I know of that is fairly large is Cresent Lake up past Port Angeles that I know some folks run jets on. It's about 1 1/2 hours from Ludlow. Dano and Dble D from Skagen live up there and run a blown Ultra there.

As far as Ludlow and the economy, Ludlow is a retirement or semi retirement community of folks that clearly have way more money than me so needless to say, there's not a lot of work there. Port Townsend is close as is Hadlock but I can't think of what types of work are around there.

I just got back last week from spending 2 weeks there. Nice place, but man is it ever in BFE.

would it be possible to get me some names or contact info of some shops in your area? The drive to silverdale isn't bad.. i can make it from where i'll be staying to the home depot in poulsbo in under 20 mins. and it's about 8-10 miles further to silverdale so thats not bad.

I found a guy in hadlock that advertised as being a rod shop but when i stopped in he was actually a collision repair shop.

I will be building a beach front house for some family there but it will be in phases spaced over a 3-5 year period so i'm going to need some steady work and i'll just build the house after hours and weekends..

any leads you might have are much appreciated.
