Pend Oreille - Big Water !

We're Off! It's going to be our first time to Pend Oreille Lake - Can't wait to burn some tankfuls on the big water...We've got our map, we've talked to the Marinas - they say the weather is killer up there. It's also the Sandpoint Hot Rod Show if anybody is interested...

We were at CDA Lake last week and there were tons of debree and dead heads, it looked like a mine field - so watch out!

But if doesn't really matter where I am so long as I am trimmed out and flyin!

We drove by the Formula shop on the way up to the lake but it was still early...

Farragut had a great launch and there will be plenty of places to dock for the night once the water rises (the lake is down 7' the locals say) We went to Hope and had a terrific time until the Sheriff's department descended upon the Formulator

You know us, nothing to hide...We woke up Saturday to a Bonner's Ferry Sheriff boat in front and behind us! We didn't think anything of it because nobody was around...UNTIL...

To make a long story (for later) short now. Apparently our exhaust diverter - that I use as a courtesy in and around the marinas - is a red flag for the tighta$$ want-to-be-cops around the Hope-Sandpoint area. (Supposedly this guy got kicked off of Priest 3 years ago when he got shot at) Talk about a perfect morning gone dark

The Sheriff said in short: 1) This is your education (he gave me reading materials), 2) next is your warning if I pull you over on the lake, 3) your last chance is when I give you a ticket, 4) let me see you again and I will impound your boat! (If I don't have a certified mechanic disable my exhaust switch and be able to show proof that the work was done) Screw that...

So we beelined down to the other side of the lake (as Terry would say at the Mystic Moose - the other side of the 'tracks') and had a great weekend and met up with some new friends...The 292 just tore up the lake and we had a ball.

Ya...silenct choice/captain's call/whatever you call it is illegal. LEs are trained to look for it. They have nothing better to do if you aren't doing anything else illegal. Now tell me...if you were a Cobalt or Rinker with the thru hull exhaust you think they would of given you the time of day. NO. If you have a 'performance looking' boat then get ready to be pulled over and at least given a safety check. Just don't be drinking until the boat is at the dock for the day. I know the guy that pulled you over. Usually nice but if he new you were out of town then perhaps not so nice. They don't care if you are bringing tourest money into the area.

Most states say it is illegal to use diverters, etc.
NOT Idaho where it is illegal to have them installed.
Last year when Mike & I got "Safety Checked" on Priest the LE's didn't even know what Silent Choice, etc looked like. They just knew you could not have it. Great training program... Right.

Ya...Good Times. Probably 30-40 boats parked at Hills Resort. Cops pull up...walk over...and are only concerned about our boats. Go thru the whole safety check thing. Didn't do the sound check since the area was too confined. However, they walked right by a boat with an expired tab. Nice.

I would hate to see what they would do with the open headers on my flat bottom v-drive hallett. Are a lot of the water ways like that in Norhtern Idaho? I have always thought about trying to get the boat up there for a vacation.

Bonner County is pretty rough on Silent Choice. Even if your boat meets the noise requirements on the "loud" setting you are still in violation. To make things worse they passed a county ordnance last year making it a misdemeanor for silent choice and or noise limits. And I assure you they dont care who you are, you will get contacted. Not too many cites yet but tons of contact. And no, my boat does not meet the decibal requirments and I stay off Bonner County waterways with it. With the exeption of below the Albeni dam, no patrol boats there. We have some exeptional water here, its too bad its come to this.

BTW the leo that was shot at on Priest is no longer working for Bonner County.

67Hallett, if you head up north get ahold of me, Ill show you open header friendly waters. Several lakes and some river waters up hear that you get no complaints.
