Lake Lopez - Arroyo Grande

We headed to Lopez this Friday for a week. 4 family outing, trailer rentals, small boat, etc. Looking for input/suggestions on the area since we've never been in the area before.

So far: fish in the am, take the kids tubing in the (windy) afternoon, some day hiking, a water park visit or two, a day run down to Pismo...

Looks to be a nice, small lake and decent campground. Like what I'm seeing on the weather forecast... just gotta find them sweatshirts...

Sounds like you have the correct agenda. I call it Blow Pez! It's a small lake, windy usually after 9:30. Has decent fish. The arm where you launch and the arm to the right, Whitenberg are 5 mph. So you can usually get away from the wake makers. Usually because theres always some Idiot that doesn't read or care.
Naci is about an hour or so north, San Antonio is 30 min more. Up 101. SLO is the big city the area. Up Hwy 1 is Morro Bay and Cambria, Worst Castle. North County is Wine Country. Mid State Fair is this week, Paso Robles.
Please spend $$$ while you are her maybe I'll get some trickle down.

Thanks G for the feedback... It's all about changing our zipcode for a few days and trying out the RV life... The nephew and his young family are stoked we tagged along, so I want to give them some on-the-water fun.

A roadtrip to Naci is a def maybe...haven't been there in a looooong time. Catching some decent largemouths is my agenda, so plan to work that lake over real good.

Had an awesome time at Lopez... Perfect weather, empty (boats) lake, abundant wildlife, lousy fishing, good food at F Mc's, etc.

Went to Pismo and witnessed something I had never seen before...a Pelican Feeding Frenzy.

Sorry I missed the thread The best time for Lopez is in the fall. Indian summers are great.....little warm offshore Santa Anna wind lays the lake down.

Glad you had a good time. Lopez, I call it BlowPez is a nice small lake, very rarely gets hot like Naci and San Ant do. Just too small and the speed limit keep me from going there unless I'm fishing a tournament. Tons of Wild Turkeys around that area, hope you saw some or at least heard some. Next time your up go to Jocko's for a real steak dinner.

We fished the crap out of that lake every morning. It was our first trip, but the rest of the gang have been going for the last 3-4 years and would catch a boatload (and release), but not this time. The windsurfers got there share of the lake as well. My boat does 30mph on a good day and we still get from the top of Lopez arm to the Marina in about 10 min or so. Damn turkeys were EVERYWHERE...deer ate out of the kids hands.
