Gear I have wondered the same thing, with or without!!! I would think that the added inducer would have to use up alittle HP to spin it.. How much, IDK, but I would think very little.. But I do know I would give up 3 mph to get there quicker. I would think it would help feed the impelled through all RPM ranges and not just on the takeoff
TN,
There still seems to be a number of different opinions on the inducer. Personally, I entered jetboating in the late 1970's and was active until the late 1980's. When I returned nearly twenty years later there were two innovations that I personally don't think a performance lake boat can do without. One is the inducer and the other a Place Diverter.
By history and nature, I am a long time drag racer and I will give up a couple of MPH any day to improve my ET. I don't think I am in the wrong camp with my personal opinion as I believe most of the top running jetboats on the lake as well as on the track are running inducers. Just my humble opinion and I do respect the opinion of others and will accept other ideas in this discussion.
Gear
I'm with ya buddy :p
BUT Gear do you think when running a big impeller like a A or AA one would need a inducer .. I can understand somebody runnin a B or smaller needing 1 for the holeshot .. I guess it really comes down to how much HP your puttin to the pump .. I know when talking with Tom Morrow when he built my pump he loved the things, said it was the best thing since sliced bread .. But he was also real picky on what type/brand of inducer to run .. I had bought a billet inducer off ebay and he told me to throw it in the trash, he wanted to use his ( not sure what his was) .. All I know is when I mash the gas it grabs and goes :D
Got 1 more for ya Gear, Tiger, and Chop :)bulb
Do yal like runnin big impellers OR Spinning the shit out of a smaller impeller ?? I know it all comes down to what your engine peaks and match your impeller to that . DO yal think your gonna go faster spinning a AA to 5000 or spinning a B to 7000 ???
And all I hear is crickets :notsure:
I always match impeller rpm to dyno sheet....inducer works well for hole shot, maybe a 1-2 mph loss on top with a "A" imho if motor makes 1000 at 7000 why would you want to run it at 5000 where it makes 750?
Maybe I need to reword the queston :)sphss Lets take the dyno sheet out of the equation and say we got a 700 HP engine
@ 700 HP according to the impeller chart you could spin a AA about 5700, and if you go to C your gonna spin it about 6800 . Witch 1 would you think would be faster ?? Witch 1 is gonna move more water ???
IMO I like Big impellers and building the power to spin em and when running a Big impeller would 1 need a inducer ?? Or are you gonna perform better runnin a smaller impeller and spinning the shit out of it
:p Chirp Chirp Chirp!:D
TN, The larger impeller is going to move more water but, you have to think a little different! A AA impeller turning 6000 RPM moves X amount of water and an B impeller turning the same RPM will move X amount of water also! And here where it changes the Xs are not the same amount! The AA will move more water at the same RPM! So think of the B as moving the same amount say at 6800 RPM as to the AA at 6000. Spinning the motor more on some apps. will make more speed due to hitting the power of the motor!
Let me splain this like I see it........
Put you in an A or AA, go out run the sheez outta her and see what "Hell Yeah" factor you come up with. Then go home and change to a B and repeat test. If the "Hell Yeah" factor goes down go back to the first one. If it goes up, leave it like it is....... Plan and simple this way!!! :)bulb:)devil:)grn:)hand
or you gotta be smart before your a SMARTASS :Dhil:)
This is what happened with shotgun
Started with an A stainless turning 6800 rpm BBC 509 with 10 lbs of boost
found a crack in my suction housing so...
Changed the suction housing and went to a AA HH Stainless and went down to 8 lbs of boost turning 5400 rpm
The A was faster on top end and the AA is faster on the take off.
I like the AA myself burns less fuel and I'm not killing my motor as much...;)
as far as a race deal goes I would stick with what I have now I feel my ET is better
my plan will be to get the motor where I want it "Power Wise" and then if I need to I will cut my Impeller
I would like to turn about 6000.....:smoking-cannabis-03
and I run an inducer also I think its worth about 300 rpm on my deal :)bulb
hil:)hil:) Snatchy you will be ok in time!:D The "WoW" factor plays a big part too!:)devil
I am not the sharpest cookie cutter in the drawer either!:)sphss But, I try real hard!!!:D;)
Coonass, It's whatever you or anybody wants to run to there taste!:)hand
I wish mine would turn 6700-6800 with an AA or an A+
