This is what I heard. What is going on right now with Firebird is, Firebird had a 30 year lease with the tribe & it will be up in the spring of 2013 & Firebird is trying to work out a deal with the tribe on a 7 year option on the 30 year lease. I have been told (by the track owner) that as soon as a deal is signed, he will e-mail all the racer on the mailing list with the good news. He believe a deal will be worked out in the next few months.

He BELIEVES....The Indians want it back. The Indians have been getting fucked all their lives. Why would or should they? My uncle founded that track for Charlie and Charlie has been a prick ever since! I hope he does not get what he wants. I am hoping that Firebird gets shut down only so someone can start over and build something better to accommodate all of us. I don't care either way I will just move to another track hopefully Bluewater and others. Guess I am a little bitter on this issue but Jeremie threw a lot away to make ADBA happen and Charlie took advantage of the situation when he could have helped. I will miss the World Finals at Firebird as I have not missed a single one since I was 8 yrs old. I think this will make for better ways. I would be 99% sure Firebird is done!

Seems your family has got history with Charlie Allen and your bitterness is taking place of common sense. If Firbird is shut down, NO ONE is gonna invest what it takes to build another track and that venue will be lost forever. Firebird is some of the best water anywhere and the loss of that track will have a significnat negative impact on drag boat racing. Wishing for that is retarded for anyone that cares about the sport.
Racers in general always have a hard on for a buisiness man trying to make a profit in promoting races. Most feel promotors should promote for free. Don't work like that. As a racer, my dealings with Charlie Allen have allways been positive. Back when he ran IHBA, his races were HUGE and were something to be a part of. He treated me fairly and that's how I judge people. Don't hate the player, hate the game.
I hope Firebird gets an extension and continues to host some of the best drag boat racing to be found....

Well I have heard otherwise and like I said I think a new facility would bring more people to the sport. I just wish it was a different owner. I have talked to many people about about the current owner and 9 out of ten wish it was not him. Heard John Force might be doing something about all that. If you remember back in the 80's drag boat racing at Firebird was HUGE! Boat count was way higher and spectators and sponsors was off the charts. Shit I remember Coors Light being posted everywhere and hot women in bikinis well not anymore and I am sure the owner has a lot to do with it. Something else has to be done or the sport is gonna die! Dom,
Like David, I am sorry your family has a negative history with the Phoenix promoter. Again, like David I agree that many racers don't seem to like promoters, but the bottom line is we, as drag boat racers, can't exist without the promoters and they can't exist without us. It is a point of coexistence and money drives the equation. It has to be a profitable venture for all.

Spectator count of the 80's.... well that is a long fetch.... In the 80's we had 150 to 200 boats at Waco at every race and the spectator base was "unreal", and the AquaFest in Austin was second to none. The AquaFest no longer exist and our Waco track, although a nicer facility than ever, has not had half the boat count or the spectators of earlier years. Our sport has diminished over the years all over the country and the economy has been a little tough as well. With the exception of National Event drag racing, drag racing has diminished quite a bit since the 80's, especially at the roots level and local rural tracks. There are not nearly as many local rural tracks now as there were in the 80's at least that is the case in my geographical area.. Folks have a lot other venues and attractions to attend and attract their dollars.

So, yes, we need to be concerned about each and every venue and do what we can to help promote it. Just because one track closes is no guarantee that another will be constructed. In mid America, just keeping our existing drag boat facilities open seems to be a challenge. There are few new ventures and venturist. I will say that the Wheatland track constructed by Lucas is a really nice facility. I hope it is profitable for them so that they may consider constructing additional facilities of that caliber across the nation.

Let us support all the tracks and promoters and keep our sport alive

The Lake and the grandstands were built by the government in 1977/1978 for the Indian Tribes. I don.t think that Obama has the funds or the desire to build another track.
