I have been a boater for the better part
of 40 years and owner of Rex Marine
since 1981. In my blogs I will attempt to
tell a story of each event I cover,
from my perspective and through my
photos. I hope more people will become
involved as spectators or racers as a result
of my coverage. Enjoy
Irvine V-Drive Regatta - Part Three
I arrived back Sunday am to a much lighter crowd of spectators (Father’s Day) and a few less participants but the day was still a good one. It was a full day of guys just having a blast running their boats. Some of the K-boats went back in the water and made exhibition runs. Billy B took his son Connor out for a ride. Connor came back in driving with a large grin across his face. Apparently Billy said give it some down and Connor gave it some gas instead and got a little air time. The cavitation plates on these boat are controlled by and down pedal, which bends the plate on the back of the boat down to keep the attitude of the boat down. Out of the hole with no down plate and big throttle commonly results in some pretty good wheelies.
Tom Buckles was in attendance with four of his immaculate stable of boats. He purchased another while there too. His boats are over the top in show quality. All have Billy B paintjobs and Prime Marine has done most of the rigging.

All in all it was a great event. Dave Noyes and Jim Wilkes do this each year and from what I’ve heard it just keeps improving. There was great attendance and it was obvious that everyone had a great time. I’m looking forward to the 2009 V-drive Regatta. If you live within range I highly recommend you come on over and have some fun.
