Default WTB, Cougar 21 MTR V Drive or 22 MTR OB/SD

Looking to buy or trade for 21 Cougar MTR V-drive or 22 MTR outboard or SD. Would consider with or without power. Age is not a factor. Condition is.

I've previously owned a 1988 Cougar 19 MTR-V drive that I purchased new from Cougar Custom, but reluctantly had to sell it in the 90's (Scared the @#$% out of wife). Missed it ever since however, prefer more freeboard next time. Currently have a 1997 Nordic Heat 28' that is undergoing a re-rig with fresh custom paint, new interior and refurbished tri axle trailer and fresh, blower ready 509 BBC with premium internals if anyone is interested in trading up to a bigger boat. Regardless, I will be selling the Nordic this spring after it is finished, as I'm getting up in years and am having some issues launching and recovering such a large boat.

I'm in no hurry, so if anyone has a Canadian 21 MTR that they are considering selling in the future, please send me a PM.

Thanks folks and keep an eye out for me...…!!

there have been a couple for sale in the last few years. I have had 2 19 v drives, and my dad has had two as well. I am currently restoring one. He also had a 21 daytona v drives. I would love to know the year, colors and location you had yours.

where are you located now. I will keep an eye out for you

    Steve,

Mine was in NE Ohio and ended up being owned by a gentleman by the name of Ron Munson, albeit having changed hands at least once. My pics are all 35MM, so I don't have them digitized to post. I ordered it in 1987 directly from Cougar in Salmon Arm, specifying the colors and the 10 degree strut drag set up. I drove to Brantford, Ontario and picked it up at Cougar Boats East Canada from a dealer named Jamie in 1988. The boat was only partially rigged, requiring me to supply the power (an "A" Headed, TFS tunnel rammed 466 Ford) and the rest of the driveline and prop. I was originally going to buy an Eliminator, but the strong US dollar made the Cougar a bargain. I think the Canadian Cougars excelled on mold and gelcoat workmanship, but were not without their shortcomings. I really would have ordered a 21 MTR, had I had it to do over, but back in those days, the allure of another 10 MPH was all I considered. I pulled my engine and sold the boat in like new condition back in the early 90's. I still have pics of the boat sitting in the shop in British Columbia if the current owners get nostalgic.

As for location, I still live in the NE, Ohio area.

Just curious if the Ron Munson that bought your boat was any relation to the Late Ron Munson the hydroplane driver? Don't hear much hydroplane talk or mention of the old drivers around these parts.

Can't comment one way or another on Munson.

I do remember Eddie Hill having a keen interest in it. We spoke at length one evening trying to come to a swap deal. One of the nicest guys in racing.

I to purchased in 1989 a 21' cougar v-drive in stage 2 back when the us $ was strong, from the same place. Powered it with a blown 427 chevy. Still have it today.
