Default help with my crownline PLEASE

I just bought a 03 crownline br 27ft with a 496 in it, has the bravo 3 drive. The guy i bought it from said his average top speed was 57 -58 mph, he said he has hit 60mph before with only 2 people on it and half a tank of gas. I have not been able to go faster then 48mph, is it possible that the props are dinged up and im losing top speed or is he full of crap?
    Can this boat hit 60mph???????????

Also i was told if i change the lower unit to an x drive i can gain 5-8 mph is this true????

And finaly i want to build the motor this winter which direction do you think is the best bang for my buck and best for the motor, whipple charger, pro charger, or just build the motor???????

Please let me know what your thoughts are thanks

I would think a top speed of 50-53 would be about it. I think he is full of crap.

Maybe. But the drive you have now handles much better then the other at most speeds and is more fuel efficient. Also planes

    faster.

Anything over about 400 hp in a boat like that is a waste. The hull will only go so fast. Save your bucks for gas.

Those are my thought but I don't know shit.

I have a 23' Crownline with a 350 in it and I think they're actually pretty lively hulls for what it's worth. Your 27 is about 5400 lbs so I would think the 375 horse 496 would push at least into the lower to mid 50's. What kinda of rpm's are you turning? Are you measuring speed from the speedo or gps?

I'm with Evil on the upgrading the motor question. Not nessaserily because of the hull but more the limitation of the motor. Without rebuilding it with all forged interals I wouldn't put any forced industion on it due to the reliability. Raylar makes a kit for it increasing hp by about 100 or so but it's pretty expensive. Might be better off picking up a 502 for it.

I would think 60 is possible with a light load & properly trimmed. The bravo 1 will improve performance, but I don't know how much. A coworker has prochargers on his stock 496's on a 36' formula with xr drives & runs low 90's gps. So far he has 350 hrs with no issues.
