Default Dana 18 running in reverse to power jet drive?

Hello Bob: new to this site> i have this obsession to build an amphibious vehicle. started on chassis and drive line. the uncertainty issue is that i have to connect a powerglide trans. to a dana 18 transfer case( standing on end& running in reverse) would it howl real bad? the idea is to shift from trans to jet drive. in high gear only on case. ( manual shift trans) hope photos come though. any ideas to insulate noise OR? thanks Rick

A few things I see. 1. The 18 is splash lube, you will probably have oiling issues on the top bearings. 2. Your current configuration shows the trans on the rear output, a diff on the front output, and I assume you are running the jet on the input. This basically allows you all powered, or neutral.

D18 are cheap and worthless, run it and see if it eats bearings.

I see another huge issue tho. A floating 2WD rig is NOT going to drive back out of the water. TRACTION is a big deal.

You need to build a 4x4 and then look into an older NP200 out of an old M37 with tandem rear axles. You wil have a divorced case (bonus) and working HI and LOW (bonus) and TWO rear driveline outputs.

Running the rear axle full time is not an issue, but turning a jet when dry is bad. You will need a driveline disconnect for the jet. The disconnect can be made out of junk with something like an axletube out of a ADD rig like an older jeep cherokee with a two piece axle that has a coupler to connect the two halves.
